Re: 1.7 340 not starting...... Any help appreciated!
back again, this will help you i'm sure!
this is how you adjust the floaterheigt: bend lip B so that size A will be 33,8mm.
also check the floaterchamber breather, distance A should be 2/3mm without applying throttle! if needed, adjust lever B the "membrames" are at numbers: 11 - accelerationpart membrame
5 - partial load membrame
next to the idle jet on 4 i believe the 3rd membrame is located, and that will probably be for the pneumatic choke mechanism like the weber 32 dir has, don't know that for sure though

ah cool! you found it allready
best way to check it is to carefully completely remove the membrame, and moving the center of the membrame to the other side (the axial action the membrame performes), this way you can see if any tiny holes etc are present.

Nice one.. I'm on it...
Thanks again dude, I reckon we've cracked it:D

Well done all, v3m comes up with the goods again.

hahahaa this is allmost a chat session
yes, i think so too. the floater will be the reason why it doesn't start too well. the floater is leaking so the fuel jet at the entry point of the carb won't get closed when proper fuel height is reached. the floaterchamber will get way too full with petrol and the petrol will be tossed into the venturi chambers uncontrolled whithout applying throttle.
with luck and without applying choke you can still get it started, but the mixture will be way wrong so fuell consumption and performance is very, very poor!
good luck with the fix dude

Yeah, SHHHHHHHHHH, it's not running right just yet:D
Just put it all back together and ran it for 5 minutes.. Checked the float chamber and it seems quite full! Not overflowing of anything, but yeah, flooding I suppose:D

One last question tonight.. Which of these numbers is the part number I'll be needing to quote?
F 13 463 REN 894 28-34 2 10
72111 (V3) 0 (02)
85 8 63_3
All the aircooled VW ones seem to start with PICT... This confuses me:D

Awesome job guys. Jon, with the amount of bits you need, I'd buy a rebuild kit, they arn't that expensive and will have a new float, all new gaskets, new needle valve (the bit that goes against the float) and all o rings. There is a thread on here with places to get them from..

just there infact. You have a Solex Cisac 28/34 Z10.
Also, as an aside. the clicky thing with the wire is the idle solanoid, not the idle jet. The idle jet is a tiny brass thing in the deepest darkest depths of inside the carb (well, inside enough you havn't got to it yet

Cool that's good info:)
Solex Cisac 28/34 Z10, got it..
Idle solenoid, cool...
Rebuild kit, sweet...
Just a case of getting up early and ringing around I hope.. I was supposed to go camping friday, although saturday would do.. Looks like its' a bit late unless I get real lucky finding somewhere that's near me or will do next day delivery arriving on a saturday.. Touch wood!
I soooooo hope this is actually the problem, after the slightly stupid ignition red herring I'm second guessing myself a lot:D
Thanks.

Changing all your ignition gear on a new purchase is best practice dude anyway dude so it's not like youve wasted your time for nothing.
Just call it a service and pat yourself on the back!

Float hunting now..... There's not even a Volvo dealer in manchester, not that I can find anyways!

Re: 1.7 340 not starting...... Any help appreciated!
Well Volvo say its' a special order part and comes as part of a £70 kit.. A couple weeks or more.. Renault Manchester didn't list the carb..
Webcon uk however, have them in stock:D
£15, getting posted today.. The chances of it getting here tomorrow are slim (it was normal post or £25 fed-ex guaranteed next day delivery, feck that!) but it's on its way:)
I dunno if we even get post on a saturday?! Whatever.. Looks like the camping trip will not be happening dammit.
GO GO GO GO GO POST GO!!
