I had fuel residue on my air filter case, I blocked the hole that goes down the centre with a snug fitting bolt, and replaced the missing nut and this has stopped, also replaced a bit of hosing by the battery that I noticed on a regular inspection, was dripping petrol. but i will check that one on the fuel tank. Not that i have that much fuel in my tank.

Last night the send from the fuel tank to the fuel filter in my B200E blew off, sending petrol everywhere and stopping the engine as I was reversing. Lost about 2 litres of fuel. Got rid of the shit un-adjustable clip and replaced with a better one. Still smells like fuel though as it pissed up and went in to the chassis. Had a lot of hot weather here though, 6 days over 35 degrees C.

I filled up my car before heading off to sydney on the plane last week so i would have a full tank of fuel for when i got back, then some moron smashed the car up whilst it was parked and about half of the petrol i put in leaked out of the filler hose past those crappy clamps. i drained the rest of the fuel out before they towed the car away today.

interesting...

i wondered what that smell of petrol was when i do a hard left with a 3/4 full tank... i think mines going too then.

my filler cap is a bit wobbly, so i always put it down to that and resolved to get a new cap "at some point"

instead, i'll be buying 2 big jubilee clips then. the jobs just keep stacking up, innit. it'd be easier to just strip the whole thing and rebuild it

Has anyone had problems with fuel leakage from the vent pipe or top of fuel tank itself in that area? (1988 360GLT) I have found what seems to be fuel running down the rear of the tank. If it is a problem with the vent pipe etc. does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get at it to repair it without, as my local garage puts it, "Taking the whole car apart first"

Your local garage is taking the mick, all the fuel pipes are accessible easily. Can you clarify exactly where the leak seems to be? I may have some useful pictures of the whole assembly somewhere, which may help.

just thought i'd add my experience, when i was driving to uni my car lost acceleration and stalled moments after when i tried turning on the bugger fuel just spurted out. Turned out that one of the hoses coming from the tank to the engine came loose sm2

sudden total loss of power & fuel leak

Post by brad360 » 03 Apr 2009 06:27 am

About 1 minute from home I lost power and pulled over, noticing a smell of fuel. On the road there was a trail of fuel that I followed back to about the place where I lost power. I couldn't see any leaking with the car stopped. I turned the ignition on and still could not see any leaking.

Had a short walk in the rain, car still on side of road.

Any ideas?

I think I must tow it home and have a good look.

The first real failure I've had in 4 years with this wreck.

We all get incontinent with old age

I replaced mine to my reserve tank earlier in the year and it was fine, but i can smell petrol everynow and then and when i fill the tank right up it often comes out on the forecourt floor.

Aha, and there I was worrying my 360 GTL had a cracked petrol tank! Only seems to happen when the tank is full, I figure I'll get it up on the ramps next sunny day I get and take stock of what needs changing...

Thanks for the heads-up!
