I want to say no as everyone else would have been doing it for years, but i'm sure someone will be along with confirmation of this soon enough :)

I don't think it does but that doesn't stop you trying to install a 240 gearbox and drivetrain :D

Isn't the 240 box the same, just mounted like a conventional gearbox rather than hanging out the back end  ?

Dunno about the same but it would bolt to the back of a 360 engine yes

since when are they RWD cars with the diff mounted up front ;)

that 240 LSD diff is mounted in the rear axle, NOT in the gearbox.

i've also heard storys that a 240 LSD can be converted for 300 fitment but never saw pics/proof that it worked or how to do it... i'd say weld it if you want full difflock :D

Fuse has posted pics of a 240 diff in a 300 casing, the crown wheel to inner bolts had to be lathed and the casing touched on a mill, pretty sure it was a dana whotsit from a 200 at least ;)

Also worth noting thats a locker, not a slipper

Here are the pics which Chris_C mentioned

So it's not a direct fit by any means. If I remember correctly, "Janitor" had that setup in his rally car.

Here's also a modified alu-diff casing of a 200-series with axle tubes removed etc...

It was used in one Finnish Group-F rally car. Gearbox was also at the back axle but it wasn't stock either.

there are sevral types of gearboxes in the 200 series non off them are enny better then the m45r an m47r, their all crap.
In my soon to be drift car im using a front mounted getrag trannie from a bmw 525 and the back axel off a 240, cheep, strong and easey to do.

ive both seen and herd of people using Bmw e30 or e36 diffs in their 360`s. with minor customisation. their alsow cheep and plentyfull.
u can alsow mod a complet backaxel from a 940 or 960 with multilink, then u gett lsd and mutch stronger drive shafts? (between diff and rim) pluss u can use the discbrakes.

Been thinking about this more and more lately. Lockers are notoriously shit and unpredictable though. I wonder if there are any other slipper options, other than fabricating my own?

Actually M50 and M51 gearboxes used in ~1975-1976 Volvo 264 are Getrag made 265/262-family boxes which will hold +500hp (basically same boxes as Getrag 262 and 262cr used in BMWs, but Volvo ones also have a speedometer output which BMW boxes don't have).

It's a same box which Volvo used in Group-A cars, though ones which came in 264 have a PRV V6 bellhousing so it'll require an adapter plate to fit the redblock bellhousing. Ultra rare GrpA boxes had the redblock bellhousing.

M50 and M51 aren't too common though. BMW 262/262cr swap is more common.

Really?? I found the locker in my Volvo 940 Wentworth and the Torsen LSD in my Mx5 way, way more predictable than an open diff in both the 300's and an E36 3 series

Perhaps if I let myself get used to one they would be good. The only time I've tried to use one it let go on me mid-corner because I lifted off the throttle a bit. I was lucky not to bin my friend's car :(

It's better than an open diff in some ways but at least I know what an open diff will do and how much I can push it. Again that might just be because I'm used to one. LSD I've found to be a lot more predictable and does what my brain wants it to do.
