B200k running-on

Hi guys, recently entered 300 ownership with a 360 GLS with a B200k.
I'm having a few running on problems. At first I thought it was the timing, I figured I was justified when I found the dizzy was seized to the block but upon freeing it and setting it by ear the dizzy back to where it was previously. My second thought was carbon build-up but running redex through it has only improved matters fractionally. Then I discovered the anti run-on valve. Pulling the connector off this whilst the engine is running only makes the engine run very badly. I guess it's had it. is there a source for new valves or a way of rebuilding/cleaning it?

Nah, redblocks never really "have it". I'd make a guess at the anti-run on valve needing replacing. I thought you had a B230 turbo with 300 missing CCs to put in?

Yeah, I diagnosed it as the anti run-on valve. The *ahem* B200ft needs a rebuild first, or at the very least a new water pump, and the loom sorting out before I can think of swapping it in. Plus it's got 198k on it so I don't know if it'll be a case of out the frying and into the fire.
You know of a source for anti run-on valves?

GSF as far as I know still stock redblock parts as the 940s went all the way up to N reg. Failing that, ebay. And 198k is nothing as long as the thing sounds right/doesn't smoke. I've seen a few 940s in scrapyards and they all had more than 300k on the clocks.

Could also be an over rich mixture with idle set by the throttle stop instead of the idle valve. If the mixture is too high you will get carbon build up. The engine should have no spark once the ignition is off, so something is keeping it lit. The engine should also have no fuel once the ignition is off, so it may well be bypassing the idle circuit. Eliminate the throttle stop first.
I once had a problem with idle in a B200K, mixture just would not set, problem was a blocked breather, the one pointing upwards near the butterfly.

If disconnecting the solenoid makes it run badly, the solenoid is working. They usually only fail by failing to engage - i.e. permanently behave like they're unplugged. It's very unusual on a B200K...far more common on a B14. If disconnecting the wire to the throttle-stop has the same effect, that''s working too. I agree with Tony - it's probably carb adjustment related. Again, agreed that with the ignition source (i.e. sparks!) removed, it has to be dieseling due to some sort of hot-spot...either hot carbon, or overheating (i.e. incorrect) spark plugs, or similar. It's possible to get a problem if the carb is mis-adjusted, even with an idle solenoid / anti-run-on device.
Try feeding it half a pint of water through the hose which runs to the Renix unit (i.e. disconnect at the Renix end). Get a friend to hold it at 3000rpm, and dip the hose in for a second or two at a time, then allow the misfire to clear. That will remove any carbon (and hence hot-spots / ignition sources), and should stop it dieseling (until it cokes up again). If that works, you know carbon is the problem, and adjusting or even overhauling the carb is the answer.
B200FTs tend to be more tired than B230FTs. They had to be worked harder in that heavier chassis. Did you drive the donor car? What was the oil consumption like? There's no particular need to panic...redblocks are tough, so if it was at all well maintained, it should be ok. I've just seen a few nails, and they tend to be B200s. Swapping is easy enough if the worst comes to the worst, so I'd suck it and see.
cheers

It'll be an over rich fuel mixture I bet. I'm surprised it managed to run at all with the idle solenoid connected. Normally they cut out completely, but the solenoid is definitely not your problem. What is your idling speed set to? Should be about 900rpm too high and that can cause it. Sounds like your carb needs a good tune up.

Thanks chaps, I'll have a look at the mixture (by this I mean find someone who knows what they're doing

)
I've got some time off work owing so might give the carb an overhaul at the same time. It needs a cambelt too so I might just whip the head off and give a proper clean.
As a side note, this is what I've been up to recently
Need longer studs, spacers, tyres and a tickle with the hammer for the fronts though.

Not much point in pulling the head, to be fair...you're not going to achieve much more than you could with the "water torture".
Alloys look tidy

Mine was running on and was idling a bit high and ive fixed it now. I took the jets out of the carb and cleaned them out and ran the engine at about 3k and sprayed carb cleaner in bursts for a bit and now it runs better that it ever did much smother
