mechanical fuel pump for 340 1.4

Post by misha » 23 Oct 2011 04:46 pm

Hi guys!

I just registered at this forum.I bought '84 Volvo 340 1.4 three years ago and this is the first time i have a problem with it.

I have a problem with fuel pump(mechanical).

Can i ask you to post a picture of fuel pump for my car?.It have just 2 lines. One from the tank & one for the carb.

Sofabex-Made in france are the only words which are stamped on the fuel pump.

It developed a little play in the "shaft" which is going onto the cam and yesterday it refused to start. No fuel from the fuel pump.Today i managed to get it back on the road, but i'll order the new pump just to be safe.
Since it's Renault's engine, from which Renault the fuel pump will fit to my car?

Thanks in advance,

Misha.

Hi Misha!
As far as i know, it is possible to use a fuel pump from a Dacia 1300 auto - and i think they were exported in Serbia.
It should look like this:

ps: take the upper body off and check the valves inside the pump.

Thanks for reply,alf.

The pump from the picture you posted is not like the pump i have.Mine have just 2 lines(in & out)and the "pipe"which goes on cam is not the same. From what i can see from this picture,it's shorter, narrower & looks different than the pipe on my pump.

My mechanic, told me that i need the replacement pump with wider "pipe" just like original one, because it can cut & damage the cam if it is narrower than it should be.

He had similiar pump like from the picture you posted, but with 2 lines(just like mine)and he refused to install it or to sell it to me because he said that it will damage the cam.
I took his advice because he is a friend of mine for last 15 years.

Also,i came across of lots of different fuel pumps for 340 1.4 and all the differences vary from year model to year model.

Some of them have 3 lines, some have 2 lines and they also were different in size & looks.

Try the renault 5 pump, from the 1.4.. or very early reno clios. same engine, likely same pump..
