Haven't checked from books, but from my memory this had those that you turn with screwdriver and lock with nut?
I remember that this type wears from pushing end so that when you adjust valves there is shard edge that touches to valve and this wears then quickly off and again adjustment is off.
Do you think it would be possible to sand these straight or is there heat treatment at the tip that would need to be do also?
Probably new adjustment bits are no longer available or price is a lot?

Re: 1.4 valve adjustment bits
I'm guessing heat treatment/case hardening to worry out.
Should be able to bag bits from a friendly Renault dealer. They made the same basic lump for 40-odd years.
Set tappets by turns. So many turns would be equal to so much gap based on the thread pitch. Look up "SPQR" tappet adjuster for click device based on above.

My wifes 1.4 has the type with the elongated head that you have to use a 4mm spanner on. Wish they were the old type with the slot so could use a click adjust on them.
Re: 1.4 valve adjustment bits
First time I hear from click adjustments, sounds like it might be handy
I have done some research and I have found out that if one is careful grinding end of tappet should be ok, by careful I except low heat, low speed and not too deep.
Here click adjustments are something not popular so might be that finding tool is difficult, but I know traditional method so I try first that and check what kind of condition tappets are. New ones are not impossibility either.
I did look up from book procedure and should be enough simple even for me, so might give it a go tomorrow after visiting in city, if I have energy left after that.

Re: 1.4 valve adjustment bits
If the adjusters are like the ones I have the click adjust will not work on them.

Correct, unless of course you substitute the flat-screwdriver-blade-bit of the device with something that will hold the two sides of a Renault oval wotsit. I think the Renault part number for the Facom special tool was MOT567 / T251.morgan105 wrote:If the adjusters are like the ones I have the click adjust will not work on them.
Above when I was referring to the "SPQR Tappet Adjuster", I did of course mean the "Gunson Clik-Adjust". Both do the same thing the same way, its just the SPQR was the older one, and I'm not that old, honest.

Re: 1.4 valve adjustment bits
With old fashion way adjustment was at least rather easy, without any special tools that is. Might check them soon again, then I know if there is any wear to tappets, I was too lazy to actually take one out and look if there is any wear
