how can i get more gas without changing the ecu
how can i get more gas without changing the ecu
hello, i have a volvo 360 redline, with a b200e engine....
a few days ago i have changed the original camshaft with a K cam, and now i need a bit more gas ...
how i can get that without changing the ecu ? I am from romania and in this country no body knows to make a good independent ecu ( i asked someone and they said it will cost me like 5000-6000 euro, because it is a rare project and stuff like that )
i had an idea, but don't know if it's going to work, i want to change the engine injectors with the injectors from a b230e/f engine and the fuel pressure regulator ....
can someone give me a hint what can i do ?

Re: how can i get more gas without changing the ecu
You can't just go swapping injectors without the map (ecu program) to match them. If you run bigger injectors on the same duty cycle as the standard ones you're likely to flood at low rpm's.
The best idea I can think of is look into 5th injector drivers. They were used a lot of mfi turbo cars (escort rs turbo, etc) to get more fuel in.

How do you know you need more fuel? The fuel management does not care what camshaft you put in, the injection system just measures the air flow and adds fuel appropriately. Unless the air flow meter is maxing out if should give roughly the right mixture. There is also a mixture setting on the airflow meter. A Megasquirt system is not that expensive and will give you full programmability and distributorless ignition if you want (I think), but will take alot of effort to put in.
If you want it more accurate you need to fit a more modern fuelling system that has slow feedback from a O2 sensor. If you want something already engineered, take a LH2.4 system/manifold/AMM etc from a 940.
More likely you will need to adjust the ignition timing, which can only be done by fitting a matching Renix unit that matches the cam, or you might just want to use high octane fuel if the ignition is too advanced. AFAIK the K cam works with an 88 B200E, which would seem to be a 411 Renix.

Re: how can i get more gas without changing the ecu
someone told me that i the k cam will need a bit more gas....
and I noticed that sometimes when i want start driving if i don't give it a bit more acceleration it getting up in rpm very slow ... then when it reaches 2000-2400 rpm all it's back to normal ..... what can it be from ?

Re: how can i get more gas without changing the ecu
Easy answer - convert to LPG and start saving some money!
Personaly I would change the ingintion system (dizzy and ignition module) for one from a 240 with K jetronic fuel injection. There is some but limited ignition adjustment available with that setup.
A wide band lambda sensor would show you what is going on fueling wise. Increasing the fuel pressure a little might help if it is lean but the increase in fuel will be in all areas.
Mega squirt would be your best answer and will help make more power and use less fuel per mile.

Re: how can i get more gas without changing the ecu
I'd say that is about correct, the K cam is more agressive so bottom end will be somewhat lost. No 300 ever came with a k cam and from memory anything with a k cam never came with a renix.krazvy wrote:someone told me that i the k cam will need a bit more gas....

FWIW, if it was me I'd go the LH route.
As it stands, without watching a wideband lambda and measuring your mixture at different revs/load combinations, you'll p*ssing in the wind just adding more fuel.

Re: how can i get more gas without changing the ecu
maybe I'm thinking of A cam, that is in the low compression B200E
Skim the head or put a high compression head on, will give you more bottom end. The earlier cars where awesome. Again the right ignition timing is important.

Re: how can i get more gas without changing the ecu
can anyone give me a site were i can find mega squirt unit's ?
Re: how can i get more gas without changing the ecu
and will the mega squirt solve my low rpm problem ? it' kind of annoying ...
had this on a b19e engine and didn't have this pb

Its quite involved, you need to learn alot of stuff, not a simple plug and play. Cheaper if you build it yourself (electronics assembly).
You cannot improve a high rpm cam with fuelling at the bottom end, but it may need cam timing and/or ignition timing. Basically higher lift cams move the power up the rev range. If you are mixing and matching different parts you need to do some engineering, or perhaps your engine has a fault, air leak or something.
