360 Diff?

Hi there, I have a 360glt, the diff shat itself last week. My friend who is hoping to fix it hasn't disassembled it to see if it can be rebuilt. I have noticed 1.4 5 speed gearbox and diffs for sale on here. Will these fit? Could the diff be swapped?
Cheers

What work would be involved to get it to fit?

340 5 speed diff fits a 360, ratio might be a little lower or you can use parts to rebuild if the crown is ok.
The 360 mounts on the holes in the side instead of on top so these will need cleaned out. Check your aluminium brackets and bushes, these can be in poor condition.

Another query. What are the gearboxes and diffs like with power, say...200bhp? Are they a lot weaker than the 360 boxes and diff?

Exactly the same. Bomb proof gearbox from the 240/740, early diffs can be weak (pre-82), later ones you can kill them but that can take a fair bit of abuse. I'd say the weak spots are the drive shafts.
340s can twist up the drive system since the engine is not connected to the gearbox, this will wreck the driveshaft, gearbox and engine mounting bushes need to be in good condition before tuning. 360s can take about 250bhp, but the joints can fail especially if the clamp bolts are not tightened correctly. Similar clamps on the 340, again torque setting very important and bolt renewing wise (although I never did).
