Someone plse help me. My in-law drove my Volvo 360 and the crankcase or the oil sum hit a cement curb and broke untill the engine stop, but it was too late, the whole engine cannot be crank and can't turn. Anyone know whether it is worth opening up the engine and try to losen the piston and the rest of the parts or Should just throw the engineand find a replacement. Anyone can describe the extent of damage to the engine if the engine is dead because of no lubrication? Your experiences will definitely help me to decide what to do. thanks.

i would personally bin the engine and get a new one.

they kept driving after the incident, so the engine was indeed left running without oil in the sump???

or, was the damage to the sump so extensive that metal parts are obstructing the engine's movement now?

in the latter case, you could start by taking off the oil sump and the pump.


in the first case, it's probably fried up by excessive abrasion on the cilinder surfaces. consider it dead unless you really cannot find another engine.
