Hy guys, it`s been a while since my last post, but i`we been busy
So, i managed to finish my engine rebuild, it only took me almost two years. I threw in new gaskets, piston rings, cranck shaft bearings, o-ring on inlet valves. It`s not my first engine that i rebuild- i was very careful. Ok, now i have 2000 km with it and i`m not completely happy. Why? Beacuse it is a thirsty animal .
Front wheels are aligned as they shoud be, brakes are ok (front and rear- no sticking), the tip of exhaust is almost grey, it does not smell like unburned fuel. Oil is 15w 40 Castrol, new HT leads,spark plugs, air/ fuel filters. If i disconnect any of the injectors / spark plugs i see how the engine runs different.
From town to town, in 5 th speed around 2600rpm it "drinks" almost 10 litres of fuel, and if my memory helps me, in 2009 it took me 7,5- 8 litres, same road. What is wrong man? How many km do i have to struggle in order for engine to sit? The engine starts very easily, it does not overheat, no oil in water, etc, but i sometimes it revvs kind of hard up to 2000 rpm in 1 st gear (but not like i have a loose electric wire somewhere).

I averaged 9,5 L/100km in my B200F 360 over many years of town and autobahn driving. Getting below 8L is very, very hard and means you really have to drive like a 99-year old.
Anything between 9-12 L/100km is realistic ...

I don't know why you did a rebuild, but these engines do not normally need it. Maybe make it a little quieter. Do not be expecting good fuel consumption. I have performed valve lapping on a 360 and a 940, didn't make a pick of difference. Made a huge different to my 1980 340 but they have soft valve seats.
In the UK we use MPG of course.
9 L/100km = 31 mpg (imp), which is very good!
10 L/100km = 28 mpg (imp), which is also good.
Have you done the mixture properly? Was it windy? Are you using wider tyres?

Hello and sorry for my late response.
Valve lapping = the love of my life, i almost went crazy doing it, thank God it wasn`t a 16v. First thing after i have dissasembled the head was this lapping, because two valves from exhaust and one from intake ( if i remember correctly) were leaking. Tires are stock 185/? R14, and what about mixture, hmmm, i`ve played with the screw on the air flow meter (going lean). In the mean time, a friend gave me a air flow meter with seal on it.
The reason i`ve done this was a tiny ammount of oil being burnt slowly and the idea to refresh my engine ( i wish that the body could last as much as the engine).
Future plan: to convert it to run on lpg, in my country this conversion will cost me about 500 euros (sequential type, with four gas injectors, one for each cylinder).
