rev limiter

Post by Dean » 22 Nov 2012 12:45 am

Also has anyone had any experience with the omex rev limiter as I have an F7P running on carbs thats hooked up to the 1.7 renix system so theres no limiter

Cheers

Omex works very well with the Renix, i have it on my 340turbo. Should be pics of it flying around on this board

I'd ditch the Renix and get a standalone programmable spark system, the original Renix can't be doing you favours.

What sort of carbs? Given the problems ITB's give MAP sensors I assume you get the same problems with bike carbs? (Actually, do you? never heard of the problem with Webers)

If the MAP sensor is only used for iginition as with webbers etc there is not so much of a problem. You are best off tapping into two runners for your MAP signal to get a more stable reading.

Yeah it's the lad who had it up with the s14

See I don't really know much about this topic but I thought all the extricating from efi were gone (inc map sensor?) and it's on zzr1100 bike carbs.

Will the omex just plug into the renix system easily? As I found a thread on here where someone was selling one as he had to "mod the renix" though he never actually said what he meant

Cheers

The Renix has a MAP sensor built in, you should have a vacuum line going from it to the inlet manifold (if multicarb'd, each tract on the manifold so the sensor doesn't see the spikes of just one pot).

Sorry I'm not helping on the Omex thing, never used one, just be a shame to go to the extent of having all the kit fitted but not running properly (which I'm pretty convinced it'll never do on the Renix anyway, but I understand very little about the spark differences required between an 8V and 16V on wildly different cam profiles)

Ah ok, thanks for clearing it up for me, makes sense.

Heres the thread that made me think twice before ordering: http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... f=8&t=8338

He says:
I mean the renix is an arse with odd connections. The limiter has to go on the + and - of the coil, but 340s don't have a conventional coil, so you have to take the renix apart to fit it. It could be done though.

No don't think you need to open the Renix to wire it in at all. Would need to see the diagram to be certain but fairly sure you can just connect into the wiring.

Personaly I'm normaly taking rev limiers out rather than fitting them.

Thanks Dai, I'll order one and give it a go :)

Found this RE wiring on trampdrift forum:
Pretty much.

Your valver engines got a dizzy on it? i.e on the end of the head somewhere theres a (usually) round cap thats got a pin in the middle, and four pins around it that connect to spark plug leads?

Middle pin goes to the spark plug lead type plug on the RENIX unit.

Pin one goes to the rev counter. On your rev counter you've probbably got 5 wires? 2 give you the back light, 2 give power to the gauge, and 1 gets a signal from the engine? thats where that signal wire connects up to

Pin two goes to negative, body of the car or run a wire directly to - on the battery

Pin three goes to positive, or in this case to your ignition switch. connect it to the key (on the back of the the ignition barrel itself on the car, theres four pins. ones sort of in the middle, then three go round the outside.) It connects to the one in the middle of the three going round the outside. Ill get a colour for you tomorrow when its light

Then pins four and five, go to that little sensor thats in the bellhousing. two wires come off it and they just connect to pin 4 and 5. if it dont work one way, try it the other.

All you need to do it that way, is the 1.7 renix unit, a bundle of wire and ideally the conectors that plug in the top of it. But long story short, its connect four wires and the engine runs.

Valver ecu means you get the orignal injection system, and it'll run better...but tbh i dont even wanna think about how much of a cunt it'd be doing the wiring!

In that case all the signals and feeds can be found on the Renix unit.

you take the coil of the renix (it's held on with 2 TX20 bolts) and then you solder 2 wires to the bottom of the coil clips for + and - of the coil. the omex itself only needs a 15+ switched power and a ground. you can use the blue/red wire normally used for the idle solenoid for the positive if it hasn't been cut away

all back together you get this:

Hi mate sorry but where are you actually routing those wires through? have you made a small hole or something to push the wires in?

I'm soldering to these to here right? Which ones + or -?

I'm pretty sure on that pic the left is + and right is - but not SURE

I've just wired in an omex rev limiter and launch control into mine. When i took the coil out it said which terminal was which on the coil :)
