Thanks Mac!

Well a member in France has a Volvo 340 with bendy 1.7 carb. The garage simply made a swap with a Renault 21 carb, it's not really better (and btw it's not exactly the same carb) The member is now looking for a kit to be able to restore properly a genuine 1.7 carb, your info here will be very useful!

Cheers

Aymat,

The Renault 21 uses a "generic" version of the Solex, the main difference (apart from slight jet changes) is the float chamber vent arrangement. it uses the later system as used on 440 Solexs rather than the simple arm with rubber disc on the end. When I get a chance I'll post pics of the differences. The replacement unit supplied by Webcon is of this later type.
Solex revised the venting system in about 1989 but the 300 continued to use the older version (which are now totally unobtainable new).

Hello there,

Firstly remember that there may be many reasons why your car "is stopping" - the kit discussed here will address only the well known problem of base warpage on the Solex CISAC Z10 used on the B172 engine. If you are sure that that is your problem you can get the parts from:-

Webcon,
Dolphin Road,
Sunbury,
Middlesex,
TW16 7HE,
UK.

+44 (0) 1932 787100
http://www.webcon.co.uk
sales@webcon.co.uk

I'm not sure where you are located but Webcon supply worldwide (they have a stand at Technica in Essen this April).

The kit should cost no more than 20€ but you will need to transfer the crankcase breather pipe connection over from the old insulation block, and will need a gasket to go between the new block and the manifold (the existing thin plate/ gasket is not used)

If you are in any doubts I suggest you post a thread detailing exactly what symptoms your car is displaying and under what circumstances - this forum has enough accumulated experience to diagnose most issues.
Note - specifically related to the B172k engine - a failing distributor cap and or rotor arm cam give symptoms easily thought to be carburettor related.

If you need further help or advice - please ask!

Thanks, i dont explain that the carb do because my bad english ( see in youtube Ana Botella habla para el COI, jejejeje). I think that is the carb because the spark plugs dont have not fired gasoline, and run better with choke. Thanks!
