IDLE SOLENOID AVAILABILITY?

Post by Justin » 31 Jan 2013 12:10 pm

Does anyone know where I can get a new idle solenoid for my 1988 1.4 Volvo 340DL which has a Weber carburrettor? The part number would be very helpful aswell...

I got your PM, sorry hadn't replied sooner, but needed to get my research done.

Webcon is the place to go to. Its a Idle Solenoid for a Weber 32 DIR, and the part number is 4391104704, the price is 29.34 + 2.95 P&P and VAT. I have phoned them and they have them in stock, but a limited number only. The phone number is 01932 787100.

The guy I spoke to did mention that its important to just make sure that you have a 12V supply running to the idle solenoid wire, so worth just checking with a multimeter whilst its plugged in and the ignition turned on.

Hope that helps.

Occasionaly they come up on the bay but not often.

Totally agree with checking the feed wire for power first as that was the problem on my 2nd volvo. If you think this is the problem you can verify it by getting a piece of wire and taking it from the battery positive to the solenoid.

I second Webcon as the place to go for this.

No point in splashing the yoyos when the exchange rate is poor and the said part can be got in Blighty.

I checked the feed wire a little earlier with just the ignition turned on and its getting 12volts, but in short equal pulses which I guess is normal? My solenoids knackered however as I foolishly cut the needle inside and my car is now running like an absolute pig! Off to the scrappy tomorrow and if that doesnt work a phone call to webcon...

Interestingly my local Volvo dealer has just replied to an earlier email I sent them regarding getting a new idle solenoid, not surprisingly the part is no longer available but the part number they supplied was 3342556 which is different to the one above?...

Justin, Please read the second post properly. The number given is the WEBER part number and not the Volvo one.

Now, I am unable to reply to you PM as I get the error "Some users couldn’t be added as they have disabled private message receipt." Here's what a fuel-cut off relay on a MY87 onwards B14.4E car look like:

Image
fuel_cut-off_relay by macplaxton, on Flickr

It is found on the passenger side inner wing.

The wiring diagram for it is in the green book wiring diagrams, found in the technical resources section of this forum.

Cars fitted with the above relay have two wires going to the carb. 1) to the idle jet solenoid, 2) to the throttle stop (makes contact when throttle is closed)

I cannot offer any further guidance than that. If you don't know what you're doing, get someone who does to do it.

I apologise. I think I've just enabled private message receipts in my user control panel settings?

I emailed Webcon yesterday regarding the idle solenoid and the link to the picture they've sent me shows a completely different solenoid with a circular barrel as opposed to an hexagonal one like mine!

I did manage to get a secondhand solenoid from a scrappy today, tested it for the click but heard nothing so fitted it anyway. My engines all over the place, keeps cutting out and then revs faster and also makes an embarassing whirring noise...

Just hope I can find another solenoid somewhere?

Oh well, if you contact Danny at dafhobby he'll do the right part. I got one from him a few months ago and it works wickedly well ;-

That one is the same as Webcons one, a cylindrical body as opposed to an hexagonal one.
