1400cc Piston Sequence ??
Can't seem to find the answer in the Service Manual...
From fan assembly to bulkhead, how are the pistons numbered on the 1.4 ??

No1 pot is at the flywheel end.
1-3-4-2 firing, Dizzy rotation is CW.

Re: 1400cc Piston Sequence ??
Is it conventional or electronic (breakerless) ignition system?
If conventional then mac and the drawing are correct but if it's breakerless type (that's what mine is so went by that, sorry forgot about the conventional being different ) then number 1 is nearest the fan. Make sure which ignition system you have and you go from there.

Re: 1400cc Piston Sequence ??
I have just put an end to all this Ducelier shite and purchased a 123ignition unit which will leave Holland on Wednesday.
($420.00 in the USA and only $285.00 from Holland)
This should not make a difference on which is # 1 (I hope )
Thanks for all the help chaps.

Are you SURE about that? All Renault lumps regardless of ignition have pot 1 at the flywheel end. The reason I delayed in asking this as I was trying to figure out how you came to that conclusion.morgan105 wrote:but if it's breakerless type.... then number 1 is nearest the fan.
Having worked it out it seems like a compound error result in the same net effect. My guess is that you have no problem in getting the plug leads on the correct pots as you are calling the terminal on the distributor nearest the rocker cover number "1".

In the second example the engine is 360 crank degrees into the firing order and the distributor is also 180 degrees further round in it's cycle. Net effect is hee-haw difference, but it doesn't change which is number one cylinder.

Sorry Mac you're absolutely right, I was reading in on the B19 engine and not the 1.4. My mistake Appologies everyone! It is near the bulkhead.
Re: 1400cc Piston Sequence ??
Great....now that question is all squared away.

I'm glad I'm not losing my mind here. Redblocks* are indeed the other way round as they ain't French.morgan105 wrote:Sorry Mac you're absolutely right, I was reading in on the B19 engine and not the 1.4. My mistake Appologies everyone! It is near the bulkhead.
*based on a guess, an assumption that may well bite me on the arse sometime in the future. I don't know, I never looked it up to check.
