cvt, what rpm at what speed??
cvt, what rpm at what speed??
my 340 dl (cvt) was stuck in low ratio,,, the vacuum valve wasnt working, ive had this and the tachometric relay repaired and they are now functioning correctly,....
still seems a bit high on the revs tho.
can anybody tell me what rpm rhe rev counter should be reading at 20mph, 30mph etc??????
cheers

Re: cvt, what rpm at what speed??
The CVT Diagnostic Manual provided by volvodspec certainly can:
What revs belong to which speed for a Volvo 300 CVT vehicle?
30mph @1800rpm 50km/h @ 1800 r.p.m.
40mph @2300rpm 60km/h @ 2100 r.p.m.
50mph @2900rpm 70km/h @ 2500 r.p.m.
60mph @3500rpm 80km/h @ 2900 r.p.m.
70mph @4100rpm 100km/h @ 3600 r.p.m.
80mph @4700rpm 120km/h @ 4400 r.p.m.
90mph @5300rpm 130km/h @ 4700 r.p.m.

Re: cvt, what rpm at what speed??
Go through the tests on the above page link in order.
It's stuck in kickdown for some reason.

Re: cvt, what rpm at what speed??
its not stuck in kickdown ,,. the vacuum valve clicks at around 1800rpm the wirws behind the low hold switch have been connected together as the switch was faulty, and the earth to the kickdown on the throttle cable has been earthed to the car body,
i know the vacuum valve works as it should as ive had it re-built,
if i swap the hoses round its like driving round in 4th gear (for lack of better description) so i know that everything under the car is good,
the whole system appears to be functioning correctly (just revs high?)
im thinking belt tention or clutch gap??
any thoughts?
thanks

Re: cvt, what rpm at what speed??
You say it's not kickdown, but you only mention 2 out of 3 switches - you say you have bypassed the low-ratio hold switch and have bypassed the throttle earth out.
Have you bypassed the high-pressure switch on the master cylinder as well?
Slack belts will alter the ratio such that it'll rev higher for a given speed. If they're really slack you notice the loud squawk from a standing start, especially on hills. (Not to be confused with the Roullands Roflex non-OEM first-hundred-yards-of-the-first-run-of-the-day grumble).
Would do no harm in getting under the car and checking the belt tension and clutch gap. Every 6k interval. << Totally and absolutely necessary.
PM me you address and a fling you over a low-ratio hold switch gratis when I can be arsed finding one.

Re: cvt, what rpm at what speed??
you say that the solenoid A clicks at 1800rpm, in that case the electrics are ok; it won't allow solenoid A to be energized if any of the 3 kickdown switches are operated.
swapping the hoses behind the EMV will cause the car to change up gear too much wich suggests that the fault is at solenoid B it appear there's a constant vacuum; not switched by the solenoid, to confirm this you pull off the hoses with the engine running solenoid A is only allowed to suck at 1800rpm+, solenoid B is only allowed to suck if any of the 3 kickdown switches is operated (with running engine only test this with the low gear hold switch)
if that is the fault, there's something wrong with the valves inside the EMV and you need to check it by taking it apart

Re: cvt, what rpm at what speed??
hi,
yes the switch on the master cylinder has been bypassed also, (forgot to mention that one :S )
there is squeeking from belts when starting off on hills or if i am heavy footed with the gas?

Re: cvt, what rpm at what speed??
Get tensioning those belts pronto.
Re: cvt, what rpm at what speed??
hmmm... ok,..... how hard could that be
Re: cvt, what rpm at what speed??
ok, .. ive been reading through the manual, ..... still none the wiser,,
can someone tell me how to tention the belts??

Re: cvt, what rpm at what speed??
Did someone tear that page out of your manual?
It's deffo in there.
But if it's gone walkabout then look here: http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... =39&t=3803 and skip down to the last quarter of that post, heading: "Checking and adjusting the Secondary Unit pulley gap"
Secondary unit needs moving back to take up the slack, it only goes back so far, so if they are still slack break the piggy bank open and hope there is £160 in there....

Re: cvt, what rpm at what speed??
ok, went to get going with tentioning the belts today...
anyway once i removed the plastic cover it was obvious whats causing my problems,
one of my belts was laying on top of the plastic cover shredded (looks like its been through a blender)
god only knows how long ive been running it on 1 belt!! :S
anyway looks like i need a new belt??
anybody have one? or know how to fit it?
