Belts you can still get from your local Volvo garage, Daf Club UK or Born Built Beauties (www.Born-Built-Beauties.eu ).
You buy them as a pair so that both sides are equally tensioned on the CVT.
Changing them is fairly straight forward and easy.

I think it's ok as a "get you home" solution but I wouldn't run around on just one. You'll end up with two shredded belts!

You must have noticed something? :?

Either they go with an explosive bang, or they go in a more gentle, but still noticeable manner, with a fair bit of vibration before hand. But I've never known them to go without some indication...

It has two belts for a reason and not just to get home on the last one. The remaining one has twice the work to do now and won't be far behind the first one in going pop.

Change belts as a pair. Replacing the dead one on its own isn't going to work as they will be at a different stage of wear from the new one and they won't tension properly.

Don't ask a dealer the price of a pair unless you are sitting down and have some sweet tea handy.

Don't mind me, just being grumpier than usual

Contact Steve Bidwell of the DAF Owners' Club if you want a formal price for their belts / shipping. Email on this page: http://www.dafownersclub.co.uk/

I'll leave it to others to suggest how to get the secondary pulleys parted without the special tool (big G-clamp with nylon blocks), as I've only done it once without and that was waaaaay too hard for my liking.

A block of wood works on a DAF 33, but then the secondary pulley springs on those aren't that hard to separate.

800N clamping force on late Vario is a bit of challenge to overcome. :?

Go back to page 1 and see post number 2 and check the CVT Diagnostic Manual thread and do some checks.
