Clunking and grinding when finding reverse

Post by kelvingenders » 10 Jul 2013 02:54 am

Just wondering what might be the cause of the grinding (sounds like metal on metal) when finding reverse on my 360 GLT. No grinding when selecting any other gear. Any ideas :360:

Try when it goes to make that noise, a clutch down, into first, out of first, clutch up then clutch down for reverse again.

If it's what I think (and it doesn't try to grind on the second go), it's nothing to worry about.

Just a small disadvantage of the gearbox at the back, takes a bit longer for the drive shaft to stop rotating. Pushing it into a synchromesh gear like 1st or 2nd stops the shaft, reverse has no synchro.

Another problem is a sticky clutch, if it doesn't move easily on the shaft it will keep rotating and 1st will be more difficult.
