Hi
I've got a looming rad replacement coming up on my 1.4 Vario, got new pipes (thanks Dai) and Rad, but can anyone tell me how to get the old one out?
It seems to me mounted outside of the engine compartment so does it come out through the front grill or what. Haynes not helpful and not got pics of a later Mk3 1.4 so just shows the smaller early rad.
Help!
Also wondering of worth replacing water pump at same time as original one is showing old staining (no signs of leaks) and sods law would be that if I don't change it, it will pack up shortly.
Also got new temp sender, fan switch, bolts (thanks Mac) and stat to go on.
Finally looking at the plastic panel that sits above rad the clip that holds this has busted. Does anyone have a spare I can have?
Cheers
Matt

I think I've found the answer in the Greenbook for B14 engine.
Still need the clip thing though so if anyone has one let me know
Does anyone have any oil grade recommendations for the B14 unit?
20/50, 15/40?

I use 15W40 as said in Haynes. Mineral ultra cheap oil haha.

depends on your ambient temperatures. Thinner oil will give more economy but thicker a longer life.
Higher air temperatures or stressed engine generally demands a thicker oil, but 10W-40 or 10W-30 is the standard recommendation for UK driving. 15W-40 or 20W-40 for more stressed.
No difference between 1.4, 1.7 and 2L it seems.
I tended to use semi-synth 5W-40 in the 300 to make life easy for the starter in the winter.
Strangely my 300 owners manual says 5W-30 can only be used below 0C ambient?? But my 940 Turbo manual says this is fine upto 30C, the 30C bit seems more likely according to my understanding. Is this a misprint or are the engines that different?
