Good day. I need to know how the distributor on a b200e engine should sit on the engine block, between it`s "ears". I mean I know it has not a precise (standard) position from one engine to another, but it should be orientated slighty to the left or right? At low reevs and under load I can hear tiny knocks from the explosions inside the engine. Should I rotate the distributor to the left or to the right? At the moment the distributor is locked at the middle.
Thanks.

Re: Ignition setup b200e
As you say it is not a precise position, so rotating it will usually not affect the timing. It is a cylinder selector only, the timing is controlled precisely by the crank sensor and the renix computer, of which there are a number of versions depending on year, compression etc.
If you have knocking you have other problems, if the ignition is working it should be working fine. If you want to check it use a timing light on the front crank pulley, there are timing marks. A workshop manual will tell you the idle advance setting to expect for your engine.
Perhaps if you have lossened it and you are not sure where it should be you might be on the edge of working, just rotate it left until it stops working then restart and rotate right until it stops working and chose a position roughly in the middle.

Re: Ignition setup b200e
You could also do it static by setting the engine to TDC and checking the distributor rotor arm aligns up with the piston 1 (nearest radiator). Although its about 10 degrees offset

Re: Ignition setup b200e
Well, the distributor cap had a small crack on it, I removed it/ fitted a new one. And after that I moved the body of distributor slightly to the left and it seems to work ok.
Thaks again.
