hi all,
im sure this has been asked before but im after definite awnsers, as im looking at options to get the two door on the road before winter sets in (damn chilly working outside)
now pay attention at the back....
as you may or may not know I have
x1 Volvo 2.0 glt 360 saloon
x1 Volvo 340 two door 1.4 hatch.
my question in short is:
can the running gear, tranny, electrics and exhaust system ect be transferred to the two door, effectively making it a 360. ? is there any differences in mounts, for gearboxes, axles, springs?
I only ask as my 360's bodywork is nearing the end of its life, and the two door is in need of some attention, and if I cant get its current engine working, I feel a transplant may be in order.
as always, appreciate any help.
madseb

Re: 340 to 360
FoggyJames is the man to talk to, he has done it.
The engine mounts are different, the brackets that come from the chassis rails in the 360 are not there in the 340. Same at the back, the gearbox brackets (the 2ft long things that go crossways) differ, 2 on the 340, 1 on the 360 in a slightly different place.
The question I don't know the answer to is if the holes and captive nuts are there on a 340 shell for the differing 360 mounts. I'd be surprised is Volvo used a different set of pressings, but you never know. Everything else is bolt off/bolt on.

Re: 340 to 360
Yep fairly simple to think about, but there maybe a few small details.
Main issue is:4 mounting point for engine/drive+gearboxdiff (as opposed to 8 on the 340)
Different rear brakes, and depending on the year different rear bearings. Springs might be a different rate.
Different fuel tank arrangement. GLT will need the bottom outlet tank. Tank strap slots may or may not be present in the 340.

Re: 340 to 360
a very interesting read.
thanks for the advice guys.
I suppose the easiest way would be to get under the car(S) and have a look.
