going to the dark side

Post by Logan360 » 17 Nov 2013 11:11 pm

Right guys. after much research and question asking, I've made up my mind that its probably best to go to "the dark side" and do the B230 swap.

i can locate a 940 B230 motor and loom. i have a few questions though.
A. what do i need parts wise? have a running motor.
B. what loom do i need? fusebox forward?
C. does anyone have a CHEAP flywheel? need to be shipped to NZ
D. what would i need to do fabrication wise?

I know a lot of you guys do it, there are so many threads I'm not sure which one is best for me to use.

Its going into a late 86 360GLT

thanks guys

I've megasquirted mine, but you have a few options regards fuelling and ignition.

You could stay on stock loom, fuelling and ignition (not the best option) just bolt on all hardware of your current engine. (360 flywheel, sump, oilpump, distributor/renix setup etc)

You could run LH2.4. Keep engine as it is and swap sump and oilpump. Use bosch trigger flywheel of the (pre'95) 940. This solution is better for future power. But i went for Megasquirt anyway.

No really fab work

I never owned a factory equipped injection model, but i guess you could take switched 12v of original loom if you swap to lH2.4

I don't really want to just +T the motor as i don't want compression so high it blows HG or anything. I have a full 2.4 loom ecu and maf but its missing the relays behind the cluster i was told.

The most easy way of gaining some power and torque is swapping the b200 for a b230. You will then gain 10hp and 30/40 nm of torques! You can use the original injection system with that engine, maybe you would need a bit more fuel. Than can be done by putting the fuel pressure actuator in a vice.

Or, what I think is the better option, is to change the whole ignition/injection system for the lh 2.4 system! Involves a bit more work though.

You'll need:
- lh 2.4 flywheel (not the dual mass)
- lh 2.4 crankshaft position sensor
- lh 2.4 Need to change the tempsensor in the cylinderhead
- lh 2.4 Throttle position sensor
- lh 2.4 Throttlebody
- Air Mass Meter instead of the flappy thing
- Lambdasonde in the exhaust
- idle valve
- Speedsignal (cruise control signal behind speedo)
- Volvo 240 lh 2.4 engine wiring loom
- ECU and EZK of a 240/940
- Ignition coil
(I think that's all)

So, it becomes clear that the easiest way for getting all these parts is a engine from a scrapper.
That can also be a 940 (I have the b230FB out of a 940) You then have to change the head mounted distributor to a block mounted one. Or cut the fan box.

Wiring wise, I still need to do a write up. Nimminz did his own wiring loom but using the 240 engine wiringloom is the easiest way! I think most 240's after 1991 have the lh 2.4 system!

In short, the wiring loom needs a constant 12v+, a switched 12+, and some wiring for the speedsignal, fuel pump and ingition coil

I have used this really good thread, contains a lot of info.

That's all I can think of now, If I've missed something let me know!

I'll grab them and the crank sensors when I get the flywheel, when do you want it?

He still hasn't answered how much he wants for it  so I will phone him.

He had sold the gauges before I got to it so If the speed signal is attached to the gauges it's gone.

There's one or two wrecking on the tard sometimes but they are all f###ing useless sellers. I asked what motors they ave. No response on that or any other question anyone asked. Um still a few weeks away yet. Trying to get the 360 a WOF and ditch the 850. Or buy a parts 850. Im not sure.

Yeah I asked about a couple bits from that white 85 and never heard anything back.

If you post on here or send an email when you want it and I'll try get it for you.

Did the PNP switch get it going... You probably told me already but I can never remember.

Yea that solved one problem but there's a few others. Probably gonna sell it. 360S nearly legal and it will give me money for the GTO. Me and a mate have a half tank riding on a bet. First to get their projects wofed. His de-reg supra vs my GTO and 360.
