Our dear beloved Volvo 340 with a 1.721 cc manual engine has a broken clutch We desperately want to repair her, but does anybody know how many teeth splines the clutch should have? I made any inquiry on ebay regarding a complete kit and they say there are 2 vehicle types, one with 20 spline teeth and the other with 26. Anybody know? Any help would be appreciated before our baby gets towed away by the guardia!!

There is only one clutch disc for the 340 1.7 petrol (B172K) engine - it has 20 splines.
(The e-bay supplier is probably referring to the 1.7 engine in the 440 (B18K) which is essentially the same engine. The clutch disc in this unit has 26 splines).

As Mac says, there has been an error in pretty much ever supplier parts book for as long as I've known the cars. I've *never* seen a 1.7 340 with 26 splines and 10 years ago was looking through scrappies at different model years trying to find one (it would have helped with a project at the time).

I've only ever seen 20's, you'll find the clutch release bearing would be incorrect in the 26 kits as well.

It is and I also have a feeling the clutch cover does not fit correctly.
