I'm close to quitting her, for now.. Economy has suffered again, zebedee effect is positively trippy, prop is rattling ridiculously now, fair bit of welding is needed and I've just gotten 4 grand in cold hard cash. So it's saab/jag-4aDaily time.

I'll do the waterpump, alternator, rad, pipes, seatbelts, and tappets and then I'm going to store it at my new shiny lockup/workshop and prepare it for bodywork (to await a possibly custom-prop and custom fuel+sparks plus a decent respray or whatever) while I restore a bay vw camper in the background and basicly have a good time.

Then again I might inadvertently fix it so well I keep using it.
And.. Well..

The dizzy cap+rotor, which I sealed (experimentally) was so f*d.. (Photo)
I've replaced it with a slightly cracked dizzy cap, cracks only penettrate a mil or so so I drilled out the carbonized cracks and smoothed the internal surfaces- hey presto- totally sorted at last!

See the burned out center electrode, bits missing off the rotor arm, zinc all over the place, copper carbonate and condensation and the fact this engine actually RUN! - volvo!! 340pw

Had such an awful interaction with a yorkshirewoman, I'll be taking every opportunbity to debase the yorkshire-ers till at least 2016.

228'000miles - all good, except prop. It'll happen.

Starts first touch in all conditions!!

Plan is to start a profitable enterprise, but I cant decide what.

There's an infinite number of ways to make a million, and a more-easily accessible infinitum of ways to lose 4k.

Cant avoid risk.

But.... OMFG 4K That's a nut-twitchingly large amount of money.

I've got to take my time, not run into unknown territory... there's a shitload to learn.

Jag?

Awesome news. I never had a head for business and I've seen a lot go wonky so do take great care with all that dough. Don't be like Ken Dodd and keep it in the attic - mind you those dogs could defend it pretty well ;-0. Franchising any interest? You could be a Mr Clutch, like the people who did the gearbox ;-

Just been down south, done 300 miles on a tank and reserve still left. That's ace economy I think. No ignition troubles or vac leaks, everythings fine+dandy.

Exhaust is "ripe".

Handing the volvo down to the mrs and jumping in the jag by friday!

Jaguar, for men who like handjobs off beautiful women they hardly know..

I dunno what to do profiteering-wise, maybe a restoration job, open a service station or... I'm going to sleep on the cash for at least a week, excepting buying the jag. I dont know what to do with it.

He cannot be Mr Clutch. Everyone will call him "Fat Bob" (even if he isn't fat, or called Bob)

I used to quite like the Mr Clutch logo - a man with a clutch for his head and the photo looks quite amusing too but I haven't got a clue what its about, having not watched telly in earnest since the early '90's. Yeah, a classic restoration spinout looks like an evil plan.

I forgotten how long ago it was. The Steve Coogan TV short referenced was from 1994, so maybe only 0.01% of the forum membership may remember it. The whole thing is on YouTube.

Chris_C wrote: These are one of Chris' pet "we need to work out a solution" parts, as they are *all* knackered to varying degrees, hence the characteristic 340 prop rattle in idle. Some are less knackered than others, I spent a fair chunk of time trying to find a more betterer one.
Can you feel play in that place if yuo shaking front of prop by hand, engine off. When try to wiggle prop and turn aorund to rotate by hand does it make any sound to indicate problem with rubber ?

Mine is in both test without sound and I do not feel play.
But, I changed to new made transverse curved bar that hodls front engine mounts becausse old was rusted and finally broke.

Now, sometimes I feel and hear small shudder when idling depending of incline of road.
I think there is procedure to check and align those engine mounts on front member so that prop is rotating under no stress.
How is that done, maybe there is topic about it so please a hint to. I do not find in green manual this alignment procedure.

It is Mk3, 1987 my with B14 and 215k (km).
Prop looks quite good, and would like to stay alike.
