Dai, awesome, so same as last time... just post them to you empty, etc. This time can I try a different thing... is it easy to refill the original dampers with the right oil, or is that a bit dodgy ??

There is no reason why you can not refill them with the correct oil.

Got some ideas on things that need doing to it while I'm doing the struts: make the electric mirror motors more reliable, adjust the clutch, bit of paint on the front valance, passenger-side headlight wiper, more to come.

I've been hitting the good strut cup with a hammer and chisel and it seems pretty solid so I may just get the broken one fixed and refill it with oil so it matches the unbroken strut, hopefully??

IF you keep everything clean it is possible to reuse the oil out of the strut when you drain it off. The NS is the one that normally rusts the worst.

Dai, I'm having a dilemma which is that I've got the broken strut off but to post it I'll have to take the disk, etc, off the bottom too or it'll weigh 30+ kg - probably well expensive, but maybe not.... Hardly seems worth dismantling it more than I need to as those bolts are mega-torqued up, if I remember correctly from last time.... Maybe I can save everyone's time if I just take it to a local bloke as it is for the welding step.... But maybe not??

I don't mind you having so one local do it at all. The risk is if blow through the tube when welding any weld that goes through will be very difficult to remove. I have made up a bit of kit to stop that from happening :D

Awesome, indeed I was getting cold feet about having some local numpty do the work. If I can get it below 30 kg which I hope it will be when the innards are removed, its about £40 a la Royal Mail website... Do you know any cheaper courier options??

Derrr, there seems to be lots of numpty-itis around these parts.... I just put both of our post codes into parcel2go and there's loads of much cheaper options.... so this only gets awesomer and awesomer.
