Duhhhhhh, yahhhhh. You're right - I was looking through the specs on eBay and found that some of them are 124 teeth (like the one I have fitted) and some are 125 teeth. Ok, nice one, top one, sorted. There's my Easter work cut out now, hoping that some numpty I trusted to work on this car (me) hasn't toastified the engine.... well, its not done too many miles like that ;-0

You should be ok - although the belt, pulleys and tensioners are different in each version as long as the cam and crank pulleys are matched (to give the 2:1 ratio) no damage should result.
Note - the tensioners should be those for the correct tooth belt. Ie:- you can't use "124 tooth" tensioner and idler with a "125" belt. But if you fitted a 124 on a 125 engine that would explain the difficulty in fitting and the noise.

Many thanks indeed for the very kind words but today has been a bit of a game-changer.... 340's I just love them....
Got back from another 50 miles run with the usual load and was negotiating a traffic-taming measure when I heard a noise that I've heard before..... can you guess..... here's a clue....
... this might take a few weeks to sort out but I'll be posting a couple of things to Dai in the next month or so, hopefully (Dai, I have the cups).
