460gle into 340 swap questions

Post by BlackD3vil » 29 May 2014 06:10 pm

Hello forum , sry for not intraducting my self in the introduction section but im.on my mobile phone untill friday so yeah.

I have a question regarding putting a volvo 460 engine into a 340. Its the 1.7 injection (107)hp variant. I have never done anything similar to an engine swap being only 18 yr. From what i have seen it bolts straight in but some parts are needed (clutch etc..). So culd you guys maybe name.all parts needed and maybe tell me what upgrades can be done to.that.engine for cheep?

Also.i was thinking of turboing it if.its possible but that will come.with.time.

Edit :forgott to mention that my uncle is a mechanic and that i already have the 460gle (the whole car) and dont yet have a 340

Sry for all the grammatical errors and all the dots insted of spaces. English.is.not my first language and i am still getting used to the new phone :)

Thanks in advance :)

If you are fitting the engine to a 340 with a 1.7 engine the only thing you need is a sump gasket but while you are at it you had might aswell replace all the bottom end seals. http://www.classicswede.co.uk/Bottom_en ... 79157.aspx
Clutch if the one in the 340 is ok then you can use that or just replace with new.

Oh and if the 440 is fuel injection then you will need to fit an electronic fuel pump

To put that engine into a 1.4 car you will need a lot of parts from a 1.7
sump, engine brackets, rubber hoses and the bellhousing. They are sought after parts here and tend to sell for a lot of money

If you are intending to turbo the 460 engine then (somebody will correct me if I'm wrong) fitting a B18FT engine would be a better base.

Hmm i dont know which engine it is (the code) but its the mk1 gle model with fuel injection. From what i see in the pictures it looks like the b18ep. I cant check on the car because i am not home
until tomorrow ehh

Well done more research and it seems to be the b18ep engine de catalyzed version with 107 hp (78kw). I see that the b18ft is already turbocharged so could i maybe use the intake and exhaust manifold from that engine and make adapter for lets say a t25 turbo from something like a saab 900.?

The internals of the B18FT are a fair bit different, sodium filled valves and forged bits as standard. ECU swap from the B18EP to the B18FT are a fair bit different too, one is Fenix and the other LH-jet.

For what it's worth, I'd go with the EP, it'll give you a chunk more power than any of the stock options but also not be too silly to kill drive trains. As ClassicSwede says though, you'll need a bunch of parts from a 1.7 and most of us on here can't help too much as from memory Croatia has the steering wheel on the left side of the car? That makes installing B18FT's much easier than for UK cars, but F7x's much harder. Memory tells me that the EP is non crossflow and very similar to the FT so you should be fine, but it's worth checking what will foul.
