turbo conversion to my 1.4

Post by kevlar1981 » 21 Aug 2014 06:25 pm

Hi all sorry if I am digging up an old thread but can't seem to find anything much out there.
I'm seriously considering putting a turbo on my little 1.4 has any one else had a go at this before? I have a good turbo from a jeep diesel laying around, I have all the pipes and exhaust manifold from the jeep too.
My main concern is my carb, mine has the twin choke weber has anyone ever subjected one of these to boost pressure?
I understand that the renault 5 shares a engine block with our little beauties and they run the single choke sole carbI believe?

I think (don't take this is as 100% correct) that the Renault 5 turbo internals need to be fitted along with the carb and all the pipework.

Thanks for that, I was thinking that may be the case.
Do you know of anyone who has done a conversion like this?

There have been a few 1.4 turbos done. The original carb is not going to work on a blow through setup. Keeping the boost low you should be fine with the 340 engine. I don't know what differnces there are with the Turbo engine.
You will need to look for a turbo carb from either the Renault or maybe use a metro turbo carb with a custom manifold.

Ahh cheers dai, I didn't think the weber would like the boost lol. I hadn't even considered the metro turbo carb thanks.
I'm feeling an over winter project for this job so maybe early next year she might be running a turbo :-)

The Renault 5 turbo has a different port size/spacing than the B14 in the 340, so Renault manifolds will not be a straight fit. I know this because I once tried to fit a Renault 5 turbo exhaust/intake gasket to a 340.

Really, thanks Alex Il have to look into that also.
Will save some disappointment if I had bought the r5 manifolds lol
Cheers for all the feedback guys
