carb apart now, original floats weigh 10.9 grams rather than 6 - 6.3 grams... so massively wrong!
carb base plate seems to be warped by roughly .5mm in both directions as well. so i will take it into the garage in the morning to get it flattened, a big heavy ally block and wet and dry it is.
idle solenoid was loose and has a little dent in one side ? so going to test it on the 12v tomorrow and see.
i cant actually see anything else thats the matter with it, its all been doused in carb cleaner, wire wheeled all the bolts back to a nice standard and blew an airline through absolutely everything. almost ready to rebuild now.
i know that this is now quite far away from what the title says, but its all kind of relevant i guess!

Here you go, but you probably know all this as the mac-worm has probably already told you.

mac wrote:I note you intend to rebuild the carb - I suggest you measure the weight of the float "fresh from the float chamber" it should weigh no more than 7g - if more, replace it. Genuine Solex floats are getting harder to find and are quite expensive but a good "tip" is to use a Lada Niva 1700 float - see e-bay link below.

Re: 1.7 B172 Fuel Layout Help
Hi MAC,
please can you draw how the fuel System looks without the swirl pot?
In my 340 GL redline ist a fuel pump with three plugs. One is closed and the swirl pot.
My impression is that the swirl pot (boken since yesterday) can be removed an i can take the third plug from the pump for fuel return?
Best regards Matthias

Hello,
thanks MAC, for this help.
It works.
The new carb from a V440 I changed last year is compatible to the version without the swirl pot.
satisfied regards
