This is on my 1997 984 fuel ECU, and I may have cut out too much of the loom for the 360 transplant.
Anyone figured out if this can be eliminated and/or what it is actually doing. Would love to know what the signal source is.
I think the immobiliser is just a relay transfering a datalink signal from something else, but I've lost one of wires 'accidentally'. To be honest there is not much else to generate data so I'm scratching my head. The DLC signal from the fuel ECU pin 12 goes to a relay in the immobiliser, but maybe the on going connection elsewhere is just a red herring. Vida says 'depending on model' it is coded to the ECU.

Re: LH2.4 940 keychip immobiliser
I've heard of people putting the original lock and key behind the dashboard, and get it working that way. The best solution is to get the ecu chipped. That way the immobilizer is removed.

Re: LH2.4 940 keychip immobiliser
I might resort to doing that with just aerial and chip, no need for the lock, but I would rather a more elegant solution. However if it is just a relay I am going to need to location of the other end.

Re: LH2.4 940 keychip immobiliser
I think I figured it out. Unfortunately it is coded to fuel ECU (984 type) and they do talk so it has to be kept or the fuel ECU chipped. This only for later types 96 or 97 on with the chip key immobiliser.
My stray wire, which was in fact 2 stray wires, only connect to the diag socket.
The good news is the aerial for key fits over the 360 lock so it maybe possible to fit the chip in the 360 key.

Re: LH2.4 940 keychip immobiliser
Just to update this, the key chip comes easily out of the 940 key and is in a little plastic package about the same size as the 360 key light bulb. You just unclip the casing.
As mentioned it fits over the 360 ignition key barrel and replaces the larger rubber cover. You can see the edges a little but unless you look closely, looks fairly original.
I put the chip in place of the bulb in the 360 key so it doesn't rattle around in the battery compartment, so I have lost the light but to be honest I don't think I ever used it.
Edit to say I now have a Thatcham grade 2 (I think) immobilised 360. Insurance company seemed to like it even though I had transplanted the engine. The asked if it was installed by a registered installer, but I just said it came with the engine and won't work without it. Theoretically Volvo installed it, but there is the anti-tamper factor for making the computer difficult to remove, but I have made it more difficult IMO. Takes me longer to remove than on the 940.
