Greetings! I have a 360 (and love it) and now I could get a B204E engine out from a 740, so I would like to ask if it would worth to swap or upgrade my current B200F engine?
(Of course my dream is a 2.3 turbo but I'm afraid here in Hungary I can not get all necessary parts also someone to do the swap correctly.) Can I use the head of B204E on my block? If so what other changes should be done? All advice welcome.
Thanks.

Re: b204e swap
If you've got the full 204e engine it would be best to swap that in. Easiest at least. Regarding g wiring and electronics, I'm not sure what would need to be changed/updated. If anything really.

Re: b204e swap
Hello Logan, thanx for the reply.
In Hungary you can swap engine officially if you use the same engine type (with the same code.) So the question is if it is possible to use the head of a B204E on a B200F block, and if so how? Also does it make any real advantages?
If it is not the best option I might go for the engine swap (and do not care about the official way )

Re: b204e swap
I'm not overly familiar with the 204e, more the 234. But if the principal is the same due to flow and cams etc it should give a little under the power of a 2L turbo. As for changing the head to the 200F block, to my knowledge it's still the exact same 2L block. The E,F,K designations are just the fuel system. So over here a 200E is a 2L fuel injected where as a 200F is carb. The 4 on 204e is valves per cylinder. So theoretically as the blocks both have B200 on them you should be able to swap the motors and Noone would be the wiser.

Re: b204e swap
The b204 shortblock is different, so you would need to make some motormounts. You can put the head on the b200e but that would involve changing or modifing the pistons. And getting a a right timingbelt kit for the swap. The stock b200e full system can not adapt, so modifing or changing has to be done. Search Turbobricks.com for 16v swap, los of information there.
Re: b204e swap
Thanx for everyone.
But I'm a bit confused.
I have a B200F with LH-Jetronic. AFAIK B204E has the same system, hasn't it?...
So Mr. Joris if I understand correct: 204E is a "shortblock"(?) so pistons have to swapped as well, right? I read about the timing belt, it must be some kind of hybrid solution I think.
(Btw. sure I search all internet before posting my dumb questions here - but Turbobricks has posts about turbo engines only related to 16V conversion...)
I'm gonna finish with my Golf Mk1 project in next year hopefully and my next big plan is upgrading my 360: want to keep roadlegal but as hardcore as possible. (I've already have the FK seats/steering wheel in the garage. )
You guys already mentioned that upgrading brakes is not a common step, but definitely want better suspension (lowering blocks, Landy shocks, better springs) and fully serviced gearbox, differential etc. Here in Hungary it costs about EUR500,- to build an LSD so that is a plan too. (Welded diff is not an option for daily use.)
And of course I would like to have more power. So I'm trying to collect all info (in Hungary V300 is not a common type) in order to choose the best option.
Really appreciate all your advices and help!

Re: b204e swap
There not common over here where I am in new Zealand either. I wonder what an lsd from Hungary would be shipped here?? I'm building a unique motor from pieces I've collected. I've a 2.3 block, will be fitting BMW oil squirters to cool the Pistons, twin cam head, and a pair of supra turbos. So basically no matter where you are, if you have time and can store bits, anythings possible.
