I have recently developed a fondness for the 340, and have found a rather beaten one near me for 400 quid. I do intend to buy it, but I'm concerned about the lack of power. I would also like to try to swap in a V6 or V8, mainly for the noise. I was to take this car to the Santa Pod drag strip. Now, my question is, how hard (please no answers like "very") would it be to swap in a cheap V6, like one from a Ford Cougar, if at all possible. Thanks!

What's the point for only 170bhp? It's a whole heap of work. You'd be better off fitting a Renault F7R using B172 (1.7) conversion parts, but chances are it'll eat propshafts. Been covered many times, have a search around the forum.

If you plan on that kind of power, better to start with a 360.

Yep, I noticed the power output wasn't all that great, so I found a better one. A 3 litre Jag V6 out of an X-Type (modded to work RWD ofc)

The 340 is weak on the propshaft, you'll need a donor live rear axle and front mount gear box, requiring extensive chassis mods. A 360 can use a B2xx turbo from the bigger Volvos, they start at 165bhp, 200 with a bleed valve and standard parts. The 360 drive can take around 300bhp at a push.

A 340 can also be used as a base but you need a good portion of the 360.

I was thinking of transplanting everything I could from the Jag, then getting the rest fabricated.

My experiance with these kind of conversions, there are guys that just do it and make it all work and teh first you hear about it is teh results of the compeleted thing.

Then you get the other side where someone asks on a forum or face book how hard is it to ..... the next thing you hear the car is on its way to China in the form of a cube :(

I dont want to put you off but do you think you can compelet the project? If so great go ahead and build it, its not taht hard but takes a lot of skill and time
