B14 hard to start
B14 hard to start
Hi i have finally buy my 340 with the 1,4 Motor
The car is hard to start i need to "pump" on the clutch and then press the gaz a lot or it turn off.
Where can i start my skills are non existence for older car.
I think that checking the carburator may be a good start ?

Re: B14 hard to start
Firstly, Is it hard to start (fire the engine), or hard to pull off (accelerate), or hard to keep it idling?
Pumping the clutch should not have any effect.
I'd start with a workshop manual, and also read the owners manual on how to start it:
Apply some choke (depending on temperature) and pump the accelerator 3 times before turning the engine over.

Pull out the choke as you turn the starter. Clean inside the dizzy cap.

Re: B14 hard to start
Thnaks for the reply sorry i forgot some info so it's a 1990 b14 and i mean hard to fire the motor.Ride_on wrote:Firstly, Is it hard to start (fire the engine), or hard to pull off (accelerate), or hard to keep it idling?

I know that pumping the clutch should not have any effect but strangely it does ? ...
when the choke is on does the plates close entirely ?
I don't have the manual i will try to pump 3 times i did only 1.
Re: B14 hard to start
Choke is for increasing the richness of the fuel-air mixture. Plates is to do with the clutch? Some people always press the clutch so that the starter motor does not have to turn the propshaft so, yes, it can start quicker if you do that.

Re: B14 hard to start
There are many causes so its not possible to diagnose just from the symptom, but I would start with trying to determine if its fuel or spark related. Check the fuel is available by pumping the accelerator with the air filter removed, you should see fuel squirt into the chamber. Check spark with an in-line spark checker.

Yes thanks that's what i mean.
I've download the v3m technicals and i will start by adjusting the carburator and check the ignition.
I found that i have a problem with the choke too when i pull the choke the valves close but when i push the choke it stay close i've got to push it manually. So a big recoditionning of the weber is a good start i think.
Re: B14 hard to start
Try cleaning and lubricating the spring for the choke, mine was a bit sticky on my Golf so I did that and it returned fine afterwards
Re: B14 hard to start
So i've clean the weber and it's much better. I've also check the spark plug and 1 is damaged so there is a problem here too With 4 new sparks plug it will be great360beast wrote:Try cleaning and lubricating the spring for the choke, mine was a bit sticky on my Golf so I did that and it returned fine afterwards
Re: B14 hard to start
With 4 new spark plug it's perfect
