Hello
I have a volvo 340 from 87 with the 1.7 engine.
It used to run like crap but now its even worse..
Normaly i could start and drive but when i give full throttlethe engine starts shocking. When i push the gas pedal now the whole car is shokking and finaly the engine starts to backfire and dies. Then i cant start it anymore..
I already cleaned the carb but no result.
Anyone have any tips?

Hello Matthias,

It sounds like it could be dampness on the leads which some WD40 might cure, although don't try spraying it on with the engine running, or you might get a flash of burning aerosol if there is a spark. A clean inside the distributor cap can work wonders.

Also, likely to be the idle solenoid on the carburettor which causes the engine to die at low speeds. Does it click when you connect/disconnect it with the ignition switched on, but without the engine running? It could be the Renix unit, but I have not known them to fail on my cars, although I have read that they do.

ttfn, Bog.

Could also be be a weak spark caused by oil leaking into the distributor. Bit of a problem with cam disti's

I think it's the distributor cap.. Checked it and the inside was burnt a little and even a little bit melted..
Strange becouse i replaced it 2 months ago.
But the a new one is on its way so i hope it will be fixed.
Thanks for the tips!
