Final run of group buy for Torsen LSDs.

Post by miniswift » 09 Oct 2016 08:22 pm

Hi,
Like title says, I will be making final run of torsen diff for 300 series.
I need to know how many of you are intretsed and willing to buy them.

Once I place an order, I can't cancel it. It will take about 6 months so you have trust me and not runaway with your money!
Depends on how many of you wants to buy it, it might get cheaper than £600 delivered.

For now, I won't need deposite but I just need to know who wants to buy it and willing to give me your hard earned cash.

I will edit and write your name to this first post...

So far...
James x1 or 2
Espen x1 (may be £40 extra but I need to check)
Antoine x1
Jensmaster x2
Maxx x1
Nicolai x1
Cheers
Atchi

I'll take one, maybe two.

Is this definitely the final batch? It would be good to know that the manufacturer could make more, if there was demand.

cheers

I am very interested, but how is the shipping for one of those to Norway?

Thanks,

Hi, I am looking at buying a 360GLT, I assume this will fit? Can you tell me anymore of the specs for this and if there is any machining work required to be able to fit this in the axle case? Looking to use the car for normal everyday use with the occasional bit of fun!

I've had some experience with these.

It should fit your GLT, and if you just want better fast road ability this should be suitable.

There should in theory not be any machining required, but these sort of things may not always fit perfectly with variations in the original parts, the original design specs are not known precisely aswell as inaccuracies/mistakes by the manufacturer. I found this and had to get some machining done as did a few others.

Diffs have to be very precise and need a specialist fitment, in particular shimming the bearings is tricky, however most have gotten away with reusing the original shims (don't mix them up..big steel circles with 5 holes that preload/space the bearings precisely). Shim kits are not available.

If you want to do the work yourself you need to read the Volvo transmission manual, and perhaps take in some youtube videos on rebuilding diffs. Also check the older LSD thread. Its not for the faint hearted..or you could just bolt it in and hope for the best.

I'd also recommend getting new output bearings, seals and rear gasket kit, not big bucks.

Have you drive with it?
I have been told this time they will make sure it will be OK... I hope.

What I want to know is how good it feels. I was supposed to drive Matt's car when he fitted but he has now sold his car and didn't managed to experience what it like.

Let us know of your experience of Torsen diff for my benefit!

Thanks

I don't have experience of any other LSDs, I'm still shaking the car down and learning how to drive it again, but it does slide the back out in the wet very controllably if I use too much power. Also it doesn't spin the inside wheel up on a hard corner and really propels you out of it if you don't slide (currently standard 165bhp from B230FT), so it does what it is supposed to do. I don't see any negatives, it limits the slip.

Drifting the dry is snatchy but i think that maybe down to my soft suspension and standard 14" wheels+ tyres, old arms and heavy steering.

Only just seen this,
Have you placed an order yet?? Am I too late??
Will they still carry the same ratio as the standard diff??

I will take 1 if you have a rough price

Thanks
Maxx

Has no effect on the ratio, you keep your pinion and crown. This fits onto the crown wheel.

Hey! Just joined the 300mania forums to be in on this buy of torsen diffs.
Write me up for the buy for one of those. I really need it for my 16v turbo 360 as my welded diff is horrible to drive and i do not know how anyone would want to drive a car like that (Plus its not really fitting with a welded diff on a trackcar otherwise my full coiloverkit and polyrethane bushings kitt from classicswede will go to waste.)

How soon could you put in the order and how many need to join in to get this deal started?

Best regards

Hi,

I will be placing an order in January '17.
I will be needing a deposite from everyone who are to order of £100.

Let me know if this is OK as I don't want to end up paying over £4800 myself.

Cheers

I have heard of 700-800£ for the lsd and getting it shipped to sweden. Also if you could look into the shipment would be amazing m8. Best regards
