Re: 360 carby fuel supply
I now have idling problems and the MACster suggested weighing the carburettor floats. Slight problem is that I'm not a drug-dealer so I don't have a precise weighing balance. However, remembering a bit of science, doesn't one ml of water weigh exactly one gram (?), so we'll do it with syringes instead, arf....
Now, I make that about 17 grams. I knew that old rocket stick would come in handy one day.

One way of doing it! 17g sounds too heavy? It should be 7g I think?

New float and top gasket fitted and seems to idle a bit better.

Re: 360 carby fuel supply
Wokey, so the carb has been put back together and filled with petrol for restarting. All went great but I could not get it to idle well at all after much adjusting. A phone call to the MACster suggested that I _should_ be worried that the mixture adjustment screw had lost its rubber grommet (O-ring). Hence I tried the replace it with one of the two spares I have (right hand side below) but these are from older models of the carb and have different thread, so don't fit!! The rubber is probably too hard to remove the grommets safely, so the old ones were left alone.
A long search in the local spares shop came up with a suitable O-ring from a Fiesta XR2 / Orion carby service kit. This was judiciously fitted to my brass screw (on left) by the shopkeeper who boiled a kettle to soften the rubber with steam.
If anyone wants a Fiesta/Orion carby service kit minus a grommet, just let me know *{^¿^}*

Re: 360 carby fuel supply
Adjusted the float height to 34mm (+/- not much) and it made no difference at all.
Help needed! No idea what's wrong still. The rubber O-ring on the brass screw is a bit big which makes it difficult to adjust the CO.

Re: 360 carby fuel supply
I realised that I should have followed the other tuning advice on the MAC-page so I set the screw tab-stop and the plastic nut adjustment. The car then seemed to idle more smoothly, but after adjusting the slow-running and the CO, it would not tick-over at less than 1100 rpm. After leaving it idling at this speed for a bit, the revs suddenly dropped and it stalled, at which point my little brass CO adjustment screw flew out. Now, its normally dead-easy to find, so I haven't taken any precautions to stop it flying out. However, this time, after half an hour of looking, I just decided that with temperatures dropping and trying to find a bit of brass in the failing light.... Armageddon outta here!!

Re: 360 carby fuel supply
Yo! Found it under the steering rack on the plastic under-engine shield. Re-adjusted everything and had it running great but overdid it and lost everything, so back to a car that won't idle at all. Will try again soon.

Re: 360 carby fuel supply
Had it running perfectly again today (900 rpm) but soon as I try to drive it, it stalls as soon as my foot comes off the accelerator pedal. Wonder if something mechanical is sticking.

Re: 360 carby fuel supply
The brass screw had blown-out again, but it was easy to find. The idling seems pretty-good today. Current thinking is that the rubber O-ring on it is too big to let it screw in properly so the plan is try one of the old ones, if it can be teased-off without breaking.

Re: 360 carby fuel supply
Well, tried to remove the brass screw and found it wouldn't come out and neither could I get the engine to do one of its blow-backs through the carb which usually pop the screw out. All a bit stuck on that one. Efforts to remove one of the old rubber O-rings from a spare pin also failed with the rubber breaking in 3 places. So its going to require a bit more fiddling before I can make progress.

Re: 360 carby fuel supply
Well, try as I might I couldn't find any fine-tipped tweezers either at home or in the shops and with everything going a bit pandemic, none of this is going to get any easier. I could swear I had a spare set of watch-makers tweezers, but I must have left them at work when I was made redundant, arf! Anyhow, I managed to get to a stationer and found this (a fancy pair of compasses) which has potential, perhaps with a couple of sewing needles jammed-in somehow and locked-down with those screws. Should get good grip with it due to the centre-drive?

Re: 360 carby fuel supply
Yo! Still not made progress but I have done tons of lock-down decorating and have been replacing the perspex roof on the car-port for the garage. I found my set of fine-tipped tweezers, having by then already foolishly ordered one on ebay - they seem to be used a lot for eye-brows and eye-lashes these days so dead-easy to get online. Will be back on the case when the garage roof is finished. Meanwhile, also been working on the moggie(s):
N.B. I'm leaving that asbestos well-alone.
On the pandemic front, I noted the number of cases reported on the web in Kingston (green) and Bromley (blue, bigger borough) since mid-March and plotted them here. Its pretty amazing how effective the lock-down has been (remember Boris is Geil by Bruce and Bongo?) or we'd still be in the exponential growth phase.
