B19A Injection Swap
B19A Injection Swap
Hi,
I'm looking to swap over my B19A 360 over to injection.
Does anyone have any info to share on doing this? I'm wondering if I'd be able to move a reasonably common system from another volvo engine onto mine and get it working.
Any input is appreciated, cheers.

Re: B19A Injection Swap
Is there something wrong with your carb setup? If you swap to the injection setup from a 360 it is a lot of effort for very little gain. For all the effort you put in you might as well fit a turbo engine and ignition system.
Re: B19A Injection Swap
I was going to say - the carb on the B19A is super simple so if it's not running right it's not too hard to fix!
You could fit the full injection system from a 360 GLT/GLEi but you'll likely need to swap the fuel tank too (gearbox out), so it's a fair bit of work and having owned a GLS with a B19A and various GLT's I'd stick with the carb setup.

Agreed!SteveP wrote:I was going to say - the carb on the B19A is super simple so if it's not running right it's not too hard to fix!

After looking into it I'm going to rebuild the carb and get it running just right while I spend cash on updating the suspension and bodywork.
It'll be getting a b230 eventually so it's really a stop gap, I was just wondering on the ease of swapping it over.
Re: B19A Injection Swap
Sounds like a good plan! If you get a carbed engine originally from a 240 or 740 then it should be dead easy to get working. The only thing you might have to consider is whether you keep with the Renix ignition module, replace it with the ignition system from the donor car or something aftermarket.

Re: B19A Injection Swap
If you want the best performance from a carb setup then it will probably be worth going with a management like megasquirt or haltech etc.
But then you could also go with ITB's

Re: B19A Injection Swap
Im doing a full GLS/GLT conversion on the 83 GLS my mate is getting off me. It was used in a skid comp, welded diff and the PO ran the bottom end. So we're:
---Dropping the steering assembly/front crossmember
---Dropping the engine, exhaust, torque tube, gearbox and diff out
---dragging it out the front
---Dropping the fuel tank
---Removing carb wiring
Fitting:
GLT fuel tank
GLT fuel pump and lines
GLT engine bay loom
Good open diff/box
Good torque tube
Group B tuned motor
Reconditioned steering rack
I flattened a GLT so i had all the needed parts right there.
It wouldnt be hard i wouldnt think, EFI engine bay loom, ecu and injection manifold (pluging in sensors etc) if you have an 83 you may need to swap flywheel and drill hole in bellhousing for the crank sensor, not sure how you would do the fuel delivery though.

Re: B19A Injection Swap
It's not that hard as everything will just swap across but I wouldn't ever bother given how antiquated LE-Jet is - though it is at least very reliable. Handily the injection engine loom is completely separate from any of the car wiring too!
I think I'd just throw in a B230A/B23A or stick on twin carbs to the 2.0 with a GLS. The B19A GLS I had performed much better than any stock injection 360 I've driven - it was also barely any slower despite the on-paper numbers.

Re: B19A Injection Swap
I already have a kjet system swapped over from a 240 as my renix module kicked the bucket and I had all the bits to do it at a very cheap cost compared to buying a new renix ignition module.SteveP wrote:Sounds like a good plan! I'm now planning on just giving the carb a refurb and getting everything running right before I swap the engine at some point in the future.
I have a few things to get done first (suspension, polybushing, bodywork, other life commitments ) so I'm happy with keeping it how it is if it isn't a straightforward/beneficial swap.
