Volvo 340 automatic transmission problem

Post by prezios » 09 May 2018 12:18 am

I can start my volvo 340 cvt in neutral, but I cant switch to a different gear. When I try to a really bad grinding noise appears.
When I try to start in in park it instantly locks, it seems like something in the flywheel housing instantly halts.
Please help. :340:

When you start the car in N, does it want to move?
The obvious culprits that come to mind are either the bushes in the link between the gear lever and the CVT-box, the nut on top of the CVT where the shifter enters the box, and whether the play in the clutch disc has been adjusted correctly.
How long have you had the car and how did it behave previously?
Life is a journey, so sit back and enjoy the ride!

No it doesn't want to move. Before this everything worked perfectly fine.

Hi,

in the gear lever is a micro switch under the button to change gear.
If you press the button, a servo should release the clutch.

If this doesn't work the clutch is engaged, if the rpm is over 1200.
And trying to change gear with engaged clutch gives a really unnerving sound ...

You find the electric operated valve on the left fender inner wing. Check, if you press the button on
the gear selector, this valve should open the hose to the carburator the other hose connects to the
clutch servo.
If this works, you will hear a change...in the air flow. If not, check the micro switch.
If micro switch works, you need to change the valve. If you don't get replacement parts, give
me a mail. I have some replacements.

If this works, you find a servo connected with this valve near the clutch.
Disconnect the hose and check, when button pressed, for negative pressure.
If no pressure check the connections and hoses.

If negative pressure is at the servo, check, if the clutch fork gets in motion.
If this works too, the clutch has to be adjusted.

Regards
Ralf
