Fan issue.

Post by bombadilian » 04 Jun 2018 07:35 pm

Hello fair folk of V3M, hope you're all keeping well.

The recent hot weather has highlighted an issue with the rad fan on my DL, it's not kicking in at all. I've let it idle until the temp gauge indicated just a little short of H and I bottled out then, I didn't want it boiling over. But surely it should have kicked in well before then anyway?

I've whipped off the fan switch and replaced it with a new one, to no avail. Am I missing something? Buggered fan motor maybe?

Cheers in advance.

try shorting the two contacts at the temp switch if the fan works the temp switch is gone if the fan fails to work, the fan is gone or a fuse blew.

Thanks 2 Fast 4 U.
Speaking as someone with very limited mechanical experience, what's the best way to short the contacts?

I think if you don't know how to do that you should take it to a mechanic. Changing parts randomly is never a good idea.

The sensor is just a switch, by shorting it temporarily you can determine if the switch is the problem or not. Just stick a screwdriver across the terminals or stick a bit of wire into the spade clips and join them.

Have you checked the fuse? Do you have a meter or can you use a bulb to test if the power is getting to the fan?
