100hp from 1.7?

Hello. I'm a new member here and I have just purchased a 1987 340 GL 1.7 and I am wondering if 100hp (or thereabouts) is possible, with only minor mods. I.e a decat exhaust, carb upgrade, air filter & possibly a slight weight reduction. If a thread has already been started on this or a similar topic could you please point me in such direction? I don't want to destroy the interior as I would like to keep it as stock as possible as I am not a ricer.

Unlikely that your car will have a cat fitted, but if it has - definitely a way of improving things. They produce nearly 90bhp standard so an extra 10bhp shouldn't be too hard to find, I'd be looking at a freer flowing exhaust and sourcing a more aggressive cam from a similar engined Renault/Volvo 400 series. With the carb jetting adjusted to match that ought to do it.

Cheers mate :D Seems doable in my budget, I was going to go for a quad carb set up like I had in my Suzuki, but finding or fabricating such a manifold would be tricky. Not to mention the loss of fuel economy. How much wold a camshaft upgrade cost, Roughly?

Difficult to say on a camshaft price as I'm not sure on which cams from which Renault engines would give you the upgrade you're after, good used cam £50 perhaps?

If you're mechanically inclined you could also use a 2.0 engine out of a 440/460 using parts from your 1.7 engine to mount into the 340. Should be over 100bhp with an appropriate carb.

Catcams do cams, I do also have some used hotter cams from teh 400 series. Getting a extra 10% is not going to take too much
