Renix 407 vs 414

Post by BooBooBeGone » 28 Aug 2020 09:21 pm

Hello all,

I have inherited An 1987 360 spirit with a B200K engine.
The car does not start, no spark. I got a signal from the fly wheel sensor, and the Renix pack has 12v and ground.

So I think it is the renix unit that is bad.
It is a 407 unit. I finaly found a guy that have a 414, and he is willing to sell it to me.
(Most Renix parts are almost as rare as hens teeth, atleast here in Norway)

So the question: what is the difference on these two units, and can i safely use the 414 in my car?

Usually people in the community have these as spares lying around. Have you tried facebook?

They are very reliable, have you removed the coil and checked the contacts?

According to my owners manual, 414 is the correct unit for an 87 360 B200K (I had this car). 407 is for up to 1986. The earlier model will have more ignition advance for higher octane fuel. Are you sure its not an 86 car? Probably not much difference anyway, the 407 will maybe give more torque but be less tolerant of poor fuel.

UK spec for 86 and 87 engines are the same, both 10:1 compression, same cam etc. 86 and 87 are pretty close, I even raced often with a 86 Injection and my 87 carb. There is a big drop in torque in 88 with 9.2:1 compression.
