D16 engine info
Hello,
Im interested in building a UK D16 340. This was was never imported to the UK as the steering column collides with the diesel injection pump for right hand drive models. However, there are RHD Irish 340 diesels as the Irish dealerships installed modified engine mounts to move rotate the engine so the steering column wasnt a problem
Does anyone know what other Renaults had the 1.6 diesel?
or maybe I should consider a 340 1.9 diesel or a 440 diesel instead......
thanks guys

Enjoy your 300s
i'd get an engine out of a 440 instead. the 1.6 derv is VERY slow, and not particularly good - the 1.9 tdi would be nice and nippy in comparison

Slow OK, but it's a good engine, very strong...

Well, now I may have just the thing for you here mate! LOL, I have a 360 GLT diesel! It's got a Nissan 2.0 Turbo lump in it. I bought it as a project, but other things have taken priority, space is limited, so it looks like it must go. All the hard work has been done, a better body donor would be the best plan, as it's basically in a shell at the moment.

If not, I'd suggest the 1.9 td from a 400, excellent engine, it'd easily compare to the 360 B200E 2.0 petrol lump in performance, and that's in the 400 shell. Lots of torque. The chap who runs the Friends of the Volvo 300 has both I believe, a D16 from Ireland and a 1.9 td lump in a 300. Might be worth a chat. Let me know if you require details.

ok, sorry about the grumpy reply..
(just recieved a email from friends, who had an accident with their daf -definately not their fault but repair/insurance etc still uncertain- )
do you have to pay a 'diesel premium' in the UK, when you convert a petrol car to diesel?
for such a converion, ideally, I would prefer a Volkswagen 1.9 TDI to any other diesel version. However, that would bring its own issues, especially because the advanced computer control and immobiliser designs...

I still say keep the engine and associated bits for the 360 pick-up project.petefarrell360 wrote: so it looks like it must go.
