Does a 440 turbo engine fit in a 360? My local scrapyard has such an 1.7 turbo in good condition for only 150 euro's.

Husky Racer has done the 440 turbo conversion, as seen here, http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... -asc-0.htm it certainly wasn't straight forward, but well worth it, a short run in the beast can be seen on the UK Milton Keynes meet page, the video is lurking around on here somewhere! He runs at Santa Pod Dragstrip, and gets some awesome times, 14 second 1/4 of a mile from memory. HTH.

I meant to include that example in my post, well done Hugh! It does indeed shift! The rev gauge was sat right round, very, very nice indeed.

How about the engine mounts? Do I have to weld a bit here and there? And then ofcourse be the clutch housing. Huskyracer, did you need a (verloopstuk) I don't kow what you call that in English. The piece for changing the dimensions of the cluth housing and connection to the propshaft.

I've got to say when I test drove my car for the first time after the new engine in the car i was scared but i liked the way it moved. Very smooth and handles like a dream! Trust me it's the best thing you will ever do to your 300. I would never go back to a 1.4 or 1.7 again!

Vicky

Oh and Hugh it's my car not Dai's just remember that in future

Man has a good point there! Vicky/Dai (whoever wants to claim technical knowledge ;)), listening and feeling in your car, the prop is tight as, has anything been done to it? (Have you done that sneeky 700 effort we were talking about in the pub? Sounds a very good idea)

Actually I did help Dai install the engine so we both can claim to the fame! I'm not sure what he has done but i'll get him to post his secret later. I'm going to try and provide my experiences with hepling with my car on this part of the forum I do have some technical knowledge on tuning and accessories u know, i might be a woman but I learn a lot by helping and I always try and take part in doing the work manually with the other half even if I do get in the way sometimes!!!

Are you talking about the bellhousing Japper? You need that from a 340. I'm not sure if the 360 torque tube can mate to a 340 bellhousing. An interesting question for TD swaps that.

As for the engine mounts...I've heard the holes on the body are different 340 > 360, but that's only rumour as far as I can work out. Try it and see :)

cheers

You would be best starting with a 340 for this conversion. I will need to swap the arb monting bar the front x-member clutch housing prop and g-box from a 1.7 340. You will also need a 17 sump engine mount brackets thermostat housing and that should more or less do it.
The turbo manifold also needs modding to fit a 300.
