I want LSD!!! (and I aint trippin')

Post by Ronnie » 08 Nov 2005 10:46 pm

I want LSD! I must have more traction! I have the power to take most normal cars at the lights but my skinny little mk 2 tyres don't lay down enough rubber. Don't want over stated alloys - I love the classic look. Anyone got diff lock in their 300?

If so - how did you do it?

Cheers

I love the can-do attitude combined with a lo-tec approach! :D

But wouldn't it make cornering, er... interesting?

I think it actually causes more understeer than oversteer from what i've read in the past, normal driving should be ok but would scuff when doing parking manouvres etc, get through tyres pretty quick due to the tyre skipping too  i think janitor/bilbo had a couple of LSD's a while back but not sure about that, probably not worth doing just for road use though just stick some better rubber on those alloys
cheers

i'd say the easiest option is to first put gooood tyres on the car - even the glt is pretty hard to get unstuck off the line if you've got good quality rubber on there..

She is a beauty - I have to agree. Much more fun to drive now that the brakes work too

Just become a family guy so meets are out for a while, but will catch up with you all next year hopefully :360:

Phase one is totally in the rubber. I used to be able to dump the clutch at 5000 and just get a slight chirp out of the tyres. Stick quality 195 or even 205 (not sure quite how wide the mk2 GLT rims are) rubber on there, and see how you get on.

Phase two is indeed an LSD, but they're either original and RARE, or aftermarket, and VERY expensive. I spoke to Quaife, and they wanted something like £600 each if we ordered 10...

I'm working on getting an axle out and seeing what fits, but someone (mentioning no names Chris) dismally failed to take his scrap GLT apart, hence putting the pimp-ass parts cause back 6 months sm56

cheers

There certainly are a number of options for the bigger cars - a Dana 30 (common in the states in various Jeeps) being one of them. My plan was to take one apart, take pics of the diff, and say to the yanks "what diff is this, and what LSD will fit in it"!

cheers
