Turbo swap procedure
Turbo swap procedure
Just wondering if anyone can do a step by step list of things to do and parts required to do a conversion to the B230et? After searching the forum theres a lot of bits mentioned here and there but thought this would give a chance to clarify exactly what is needed.
Also just been thinking about the turbo B200e Fuse has and the way it uses a piggy back ecu, surely it would be possible to swap to a 2L turbo head from a 940 including manifolds turbo and just run the ecu from that using a manual boost valve to lower the boost to a suitable level for the high compression engine? Just thinking out loud lol,
cheers

Well mate to go the B230ET route i have a funny feeling the injection system is different in which case fuel lines may not fit and a custom exhaust will be needed. Only prob i can think of is how close the turbo will be to the master cylinder. Electics should be a piece of cake!! Take out 300 engine loom and use that combined with the 740 one to make a suitable loom!! Could run the 740 ECU with a manual boost control!!
As for the turboed 2Litre i have a funny feeling the 940s were only LPT's i know the wentworths were!!
Hope that helps
Cheers Adam

B230ET is also the easiest to get 250bhp from...and how many people here will have more than that? Worth considering...
I'll post properly on this in a couple of days when I've got some time.
cheers

Ok cheers James I thought you'd be the one to talk us through this, i'd be more than happy with 250bhp as you said, no need for more than that as an everyday drive.
I've also stuck a post up on tbricks asking about the B200ft head on a B200e, i've spoken to a couple of people off here and we can't see why its not possible. B200ft comp ratio is 8.5:1 and B200e is 9.2:1. Not sure how the B200ft has lower compression, due to the head or bowled pistons? If the head lowers the compression then even better, swap the head with both manifolds over, custom downpipe, 940 ecu and all the sensors, plumb up the Vauxhall Frontera intercooler, need to find an oil feed from the block for the turbo. Then use a MBC if you can't lower the compression to lower the boost accordingly?
cheers

Nah i'd be running pretty much the same as a stock 940 so 155bhp and 170lb/ft torque so the ecu from that should be fine shouldn't it? I think 9.2:1 should be fine as Fuse is running that isn't it? Just turn the boost down if its a problem. It all just sounds a bit too easy and bolt on for it to be true lol

No, it really is that easy, as long as you don't deviate too far from the spec the B200FT ecu was mapped for.
As we've discussed on MSN tonight, there's no need even to swap the head.
cheers
James

Intake or exhaust manifold?Ali wrote:Does anyone know if the manifolds for the b200ft and say the b230et are the same (would the turbo from the b230et be swappable to the b200et?)? Then i'd only be struggling to find injectors and ecu![]()

The flange in newer one needs to be machined though if you want to use it for example with Garret instead of Mitsubishi. But if you take the whole package it bolts on to head straight forward.
Edit: There are pics of both manifolds: http://wwwrsphysse.anu.edu.au/~amh110/turbo_page.htm

Sounds good, my aim is to use the stock B200e engine, swap the turbo manifolds on and use the injectors and ecu from a 940 (B200ft) but the quote i've been given for all these parts is £200 which is too much in my mind. Therefore if I could use the manifolds and turbo from a B230et I could save a lot of money and only need to source the injectors and ecu.

I edited my post a bit because that talk about differencies between r-sport and stock engines was a bit confusing because R-Sport packages were mostly used in 200-series and they weren't even sold in every country.
But i added the link which shows the differencies between the older style and newer style manifold.

Ali...I'd suggest using the Mitsubishi setup complete from the B200FT (or B230FT...but you'll need a B200 for the ECU, so...)
The 13c (Mitsu) isn't so great at high RPM, but it spools *early*. The Garrett is more old-school 'lag........GO'. If you get fed up with it, you can bolt on a 15g from a T5.
cheers

So when you use the manifolds of a 940 B200ET, is it possible that you can keep the ecu and injectors from the B200E in the 360?
I am looking at a project like this for a long time, but i don't have the opportunity to start with it.
When you go for a B230ET and get near or over 200 bhp you have to change a lot of other things in the car right? Like brakes, driveshaft, differential?
But when you go for a B200ET with the smaller turbocharger these changes, except the brakes, shouldn't been made right?
