I'm over the supercharger.
Ok, I admit defeat. After blowing my third head gasket and a lack of tools and parts to molest and mash together, the blower off my boat has proved too big and is causing more trouble than it's worth, so I put it back on the shelf. All those who laughed at me before may laugh again until I find a smaller blower or I come up with another crazy half thought through idea. I hate looking ordinary...

I couldn't find one that'd fit in the available space at the time. The blower was too big to fit in the space that was there. Anyways, if I go pulled over by the police with it on I would have been screwed. (they're nasty here, Seargent Jock doesn't like me 'cause I'm a DJ and I have LOUD parties, and that is the name he's known by here!) If I did some tricky mathematics I could have changed pulley sizes to compensate... ..that would have been my easiest option at the time... ...but I couldn't find a pulley the right size to fit the cluch system on the blower. My exhaust is on the right hand side, and so is my steering column so is there any turbo system that would fit or is another engine more suitable? This supercharger (or Kompressor as Volvo Penta calls it) has always been a problem, even when it was on the boat motor I got it from. The shelf is a good place for it I think. I could use it for a sinker or something.... ..or a shotput maybe?

Cos that's what Dump Valves are for5lab wrote:why not stick a dump valve on to limit the pressure coming out of it?

Do you know how much pressure you were running? Since you mentioned looking into different pulley ratios (IIRC the way to adjust pressure on a supercharger...although I'm a complete noob to them), I'm guessing pressure was a problem. If you were blowing HGs, I'll guess it was sticking out some funky pressure...and the fuelling was miles out. I'm also guessing you didn't have access to a wideband labmda sensor to check out what was going on?
Any of the turbos will fit, but as you probably guessed you need to get kinda creative with the downpipe. There are conflicting stories regarding how well the earlier Garrett T3 turbo and manifold clear the engine mount, but the later Mistubishi turbos are generally thought to bolt right on with no clearance problems.

James not sure what you know about blowers but they constantly give assistance (belt drive) You would normaly stick your carb onto the blower and compress the air and fuel together so mix should be ok done that way.
The pressure is altered by gearing (pully sizes)
Obviously full pressure is at max rpm blower turning at is fastest.
You can use a turbo but belt driven as a blower (easy way of obtaing one)
The great thing with them is they do not suddenly come in like a turbo as the blower is always turning.

I realise that many people (especially with V8s) put their blowers atop a carb, but I'm guessing since DJ has a GLT that he'll have got an 'into a pipe' style one that he's feeding into the normal GLT injection system.
Jonny hasn't mentioned whether or not he was running a clutch on it...I'd guess he must have been.
cheers

I think the issue here is that I need more work and money spent on the suspension and all the things falling off at the moment. I got the B200E so no carby and the blower had a clutch on it. I'm having problems with my duoprop drive on my boat which is more important right now
I'll get stuck into it again in a week or so, just to see how I go.
And for the record Foggy, I keep 5L of fuel in my car and 150L in the boat.... ...just in case... but there isn't any papparazzi to take pictures of the stupid s@$t I do. I nearly landed my dory in the ute yesterday but that's a ford so it's ok I guess.
