The 360 drive shaft needs the torque tube bearings to keep it straight, and the 340 drive shaft needs the 340 clutch shaft. The designs are fundamentally different, but you can use the 340 box if you keep the 360 front part that joins onto the torque tube. The gearbox's are the 95% the same. The 240 and 740 and the early 940 also use the same basic design.

Ride_on, many many thanks for your info! I`ve managed to find and buy a 340 diesel gear box, but the outside weather is...snowy, so I can not swap it for now. :360:

Howdy!
So, as the winter has gone, shall i begin to put my car togheter? Muhahahaha!
Well, the input shaft on the D16 box has a different shape/ grooves on it. The box that was on the car is #%#$ as you can see, but i have another box, from my first b19 1984. The last one is also knackered, before it went out there were some strange grinding noises coming from it, and one day spoof! Changed from 2nd to 3 rd and that was all, there was no power towards the diff. Now, these days i`m planning to go to a workshop to solve this problem, but i have a couple of questions.
1. On the big bearing / input shaft is marked SWEDEN 6306-EZNTN9HE1/C4. Do you know another compatible bearing code?
2. Regarding D16 box- on Haynes manual i can`t find the gear ratios. I know that a gear box has different ratios depending of the engine-petrol or diesel.
What is my best option? Shall i try to make a good box out of the two petrol ones, or should i try to swap the input shaft on the D16 box? :360:
Many thanks, Alex.

Forget Haynes!

The manual you want is here: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=7262

Thanks Mac, but that pdf is on my shelf printed, on my phone and even on my pc at work (on my docs, and now even on D partition, just in case). sm4
I have read it once again, and it says that only the diff ratios are different between b200 and d16. Is it doable to put one of the input shaft from a petrol box on the d16 box and that`s all?

I think you can use any 300 diff with the same casing. Only 4 and 5 speed gearboxes need different diffs. (Different in length). If you use a 340 diff the 360 mount holes will be filled with dirt.

Like Zohan would say: no no no no no :D . My biggest concern is that the box which i have pulled out of the car- in pics is the one with knackered input bearings is beyond repair (syncros, gear wheels). On the other hand, my first box from a B19 engine is also non-woking, which leaves me with the D16. Well, i do not know how to express myself for the best: on a B200E engine, if i put a D16 box this would result in "short" gear ratios? I mean i don`t know if i should say to the mecanic let`s do that, dismantle the b19 box, take its input shaft and throw it inside the D16.
Sorry for mind-troubling you all. sm4

The diff ratio won't make much difference. But I am confused, are you changing the gearbox, diff or both? The gearbox ratios are fixed and the same between models, the diff ratio varies between models.

That`s all i wanted to hear, that the gearbox ratios are identical, no matter there were mounted on a gas engine, or a diesel engine. i`ll keep you up-date tomorrow: so i`ll have to swap the input shafts between the boxes in the picture below (the one in left is non-working), and i`m going to keep the original diff of my car.

Ride-on, you were right!
So, dear all, i now have a fully functional and OK gearbox taken out of a diesel engine, with a input shaft from a B200 engine! :360: sm4
