I've just passed my test at 17! Now, i'm a (proud) owner of a volvo 340 GL 1.7... Which i haven't driven since passing, due to some squeaky noises then a shaft breaking/comeing apart? Now this is situated near the rear wheels in the middle of the car, theres this drum which holds a cog thing, and it fits into the other bit which is a pipe like structure which goes to the front of the car,now i've figured this cog needs to fit in, however i've jacked up the car and tried to put it back in, but it doesn't fit... When i release the clutch it just spins freely infront of black drum thing and makes a nice noise. Anyone help with the problem, and how much/how I could fix this??? please!

I'm so desperate to get behind the whell of my single tonne baby!

Is it the original driveshaft, or has it been replaced at some point in the car's life?

the drive shaft sounds like it has just slipped forwards. use a crow bar (or similar) to push it back from the front of the car. you need someone to open the clutch so you can line it up on the back end of the car. ideally its a 3 man job - 1 to hold the clutch open, one to push the drive shaft back, and one to line it up just right with the gearbox
