Thanks! It's very interesting.
I am surprised that they say "The car is always started with the selector in the
direction in wich one wishes to travel, forward or reverse; neutral is only used for working on
the car with the engine running"

Maybe you can do that with a DAF but not with a Volvo 300! And now a piece of advice often
forgotten: don't use the P stand to start your Volvo 340 vario... N is much better than P!

true that N is the position to have the car in while working on it. stand start
is ?? daf is the volvo cvt, both the same . the reason is for N is because the friction clutch
wants to spin the driveshaft / prop shaft , but in park P its locked and burns the clutch.T
engine only starts in P or N .

When I deposit my beloved 343 for service, I put Scotch
tape around the position P for block its activation. LOL
I do not want to have a problem with the clutch. Nobody understands that I do not allow
anyone to start the car in position Parking like other automatic cars.

Hi!
Yes, CVT Rocks! Once me and my mechanic worked on some trouble, i left it in P and the
engine didn't want to gain rpm! we were watching - WTF? then i remembered. Shit, stop it,
the clutch will burn!
But there is some pain in the ass with vacuum valves. The rubber seals in them were all
broken when i bought the car (the car then drives with too much RPM). I changed the whole
valves with industry type. I'll post some pictures someday. And i will post scans of original
Volvo CVT service manual (got them from a kindly person from Gotheburg in a factory - over
mail!). Just need to scan it (firs lend the scanner).
So Bye for now!

I used to have a sticker in front of the shifter that said: Don't start in P. I was afraid that the one time my parents or something had to use my car they wouldn't look after that and damage the clutch.

That's a fun thing about a Daf.
Ignite and go!
It is possible to start it in N but then you will have to wait until the engine runs ok without the choke untill you can drive.
Otherwise there will be some grinding...
