Where should this hose be connected? Should it be connected?

that might be the 'outside air temperature sensor' tube thingy. if you cant find anything to plug it into, then turn the engine on and see if it works

That looks vaguely like the vacuum hose from the carb to the Renix unit. It alters the timing for cold starts etc.

True, but it doesn't look as if there have been any clamps/clips on the end of it which is why I ruled out fuel line. It looks like it pushes onto whatever it connects to. I agree it looks like fuel line though, maybe someone used some instead of vacuum line?
It's been a few years (9) since my Mum sold her 1.7 so I'm going on memory of the engine bay.

My money is also on the vacuum feed to the Renix unit. That is easily determined....is there a hose attached to your renix unit?!
cheers

Recirculating valve vacumm supply? Up by the bulkhead near the heater air intake. Looks a bit thick to be the renix tube but this is just a guess.

Don't worry about this, I seem to remember mine disappearing from the carb some years ago with no harm, I guess it's just a ventilation hose.

Please excuse me for my poor automotive english... What is a renix unit?
Never heard the word before. Could someone explain?
I found this hose hanging free when I was changing the thermostat.

It's the control unit for the ignition system, used instead of a coil on certain engines. It will have the main High Tension Lead to the distributor coming from it.

I'll have to check that out when I get home...
It could be the answer.

You can count the renix unit out. There is a hose attached to the renix unit and it goes to the carb.
The car runs just great, but I find it odd to have a hose hanging free, especially when it goes straight to the carb.

I had similar hose in my b200k, it has something to do with fuel level in carb.. Kohokammion tuuletus in finnish

I still need to practise automotive english
Anyway my carb sucked air and sand from there. I then cleaned that valve that is in carb side of that hose and then put filter into hose, now engine runs much better because valve actually works

I'm 95 % certain its the ventilation hose from the top of the float chamber. If you look on the side of the top of the carb, there will be a place for the hose to just push on and then it just hangs round toward the back of the engine, presumably if it overflows then it directs the petrol down the back of the clutch housing rather than all over the red hot engine.
A garage pulled ours off the car and it was a year before we noticed it and put a new piece on it.

Hmm. Interesting. I've had problems with the car when I floor the gas pedal... Could this be the reason?
