Clutch info

I've got some new info about the uprated clutches for 360.
It's the MK2 VW Golf sintered paddle disc which will fit in 360. Some info about the disc:
Disc diameter: 228mm
Spline size: 21mm
Number of splines: 24
Sintered four paddle disc
Some FWD Opels also have disc with same measurements, but with different part number. Though this one local speed shop sells also uprated clutches for VW and Opel under the same part number.
740 Turbo pressure plate will fit with that disc and that kind of combination will handle more than enough for most. Of course there are also Sachs Race pressure plates available too and I've seen redblocks with 850R pressure plates. (Though with M90 gearbox)
At the same time it's also good to change the flywheel to the lighter version from the bigger Volvo.

and whats the bes set up?vw clutch,740 turbo pressure plate and 740 (turbo?) flywheel?
cheers

Well Makkiver is running over 300hp, +400Nm (B23, Holset HX40, ported 531 etc...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v605/ ... 1166639496 ) through that setup and it's holding fine, no signs of slipping.

With "well enough" I meant that it will hold much more power than stock gearbox and diff can handle.
Half Time also had the same setup in his 360 and he went through couple gearboxes and diffs.. so there was some power involved.

Engine and the car are for sale, if I just had enough money..
Flat flywheel from a bigger Volvo (74-84 and pre 87 NA used flat flywheels, there are also "dished" ones which are quite same as the 360 stock and also much more heavier dual mass flywheels used in bigger Volvos but dual mass wont fit in without machining and there's no point putting a heavier one in), 228mm VW/Opel disc and 240 or 740 turbo pressure plate should be quite good combination.
When putting in a 228mm sintered VW/Opel disc, clutch gap should be adjusted correctly so it will work, if it's not shimmed it will slip. Makkiver used normal washers to shim his clutch, basically it's " new stock disc thickness minus the thickness of the sintered disc" and that's the number how much you need to shim.
Though the stock 360 flywheel should work too, flat one is just a bit lighter. Dished one weights 13.7kg as the flat one weights only 9.6kg. So it's not necessary to change but it gives a bit more faster reving.

i might be interested in finding the price of a decent clutch that isn't what i can imagine volvo charge and isn't the filth that i can imagine ebay sells. mine i think is getting to the end of its life. might even be original. dread to think.....

The 311 horses and 435Nm came whit H1D and its not 531 its 530.. Havent drive the HX40 yet..

Nice setup Makkiver! How is the gearbox/diff holding up to the power?
As far as I know, the 700 series never came with the flat flywheel - it's pre 1984 240s only. I have one sat here waiting to go in the 360
cheers

The gearbox/diff is still working but the torque came whit so high revs so that might be the cause?
Im now putting a 265 Getrac and 8bolt lock from a M535 BWM.. That should hold about 600-800Nm

The torque-tube failed? Was it at the 'joint' piece where it is linked to the box? I've heard that's a weak spot.

I think he meant that diff and gearbox didn't break because the engine gave the power at high revs so there wasn't as much low end torque/power, so it was easier for the diff/box.

Of course....it's obvious now I read it again! D'oh!

It's from 500-series BMW with LSD/locker, box is Getrag and also from BMW and he's got M5 clutch. Box is in place and clutch is working.
The BMW diff with BMW half shafts has a quite near same width (when measured from half shaft end to another) as the 360 stock one, he's going to modify the hub at the wheel end to accept BMW half shafts, so he doesn't have to do anything to BMW half shafts.
